Bloodthirsty network hospitals are attacking
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with healthcare professionals at the March 14 Medicine Day Iftar held in Istanbul last night. “Some professions are professions of self-defense, while others are professions of sacrifice,” Erdoğan said:
Our healthcare army has a character that sacrifices itself for our nation by working at a very high tempo and with dedication, sacrificing time for their families when necessary. I would like to express this with great pride. Our health system is stronger and more resilient today than ever before. From the Covid-19 epidemic to the February 6 earthquakes, our health system has managed to pass all the difficult tests with flying colors.
In 2002, we had 379 thousand healthcare workers. This number increased approximately 4 times to one million. We increased the number of doctors from 92 thousand to 233 thousand, and the number of nurses and midwives from 113 thousand to 330 thousand.

270 THOUSAND BED CAPACITY
By putting 794 new hospitals into service, we increased our total bed capacity in public hospitals to 173 thousand. The number of qualified beds, which was 18 thousand in 2002, is over 184 thousand today. The number of beds in all our health facilities has exceeded 270 thousand. We put 27 city hospitals into service with a total of 39 thousand 367 beds.
Unfortunately, today we are witnessing scenes of brutality in the world where human life is disregarded, babies in swaddles and even in incubators are murdered, and children sent to school with roses and smiles on their cheeks are killed by bombs. In the Gaza genocide, we saw that doctors, nurses and healthcare workers, along with children, women and civilians, were brutally martyred.
Nearly 1,700 healthcare workers became victims of Israel’s state terrorism in Gaza. Unfortunately, a bloodthirsty network continues to attack schools and hospitals in Iran and Lebanon, as well as in Gaza. Türkiye is one of the leading countries that defend people against this state of madness, defend common sense, and seek solutions to crises through dialogue and diplomacy. As in our country, we are only concerned with keeping alive and protecting human values in our region and in the world. He is not the one who looks at events from the value of oil, gold or natural gas. We will maintain our humane attitude that looks from the perspective of right, justice, mercy, compassion and human dignity.

I find it useful to underline this: While we, as the government, defend peace and tranquility in the world, we cannot remain indifferent to any action that would cast a shadow on this in our country. One of our main priorities is for our healthcare professionals to be able to do their duties with peace of mind. We do not tolerate violence, especially in schools and hospitals. Despite this, we occasionally encounter incidents of violence against healthcare workers, albeit limited. We are and will take the necessary precautions regarding these heinous incidents.
Our stance here is very clear. We neither tolerate our people who go to the hospital to receive health services to be bruised, insulted or dragged from place to place, nor do we allow our healthcare professionals who provide this service to be subjected to violence and insults.
I would especially like to express that I expect maximum sensitivity from both our citizens and our healthcare professionals on this issue.

Türkiye will resist any provocation
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said, “Türkiye will resist all kinds of provocations” regarding the developments in the Middle East with the US and Israel’s attack on Iran. Speaking at the joint press conference he held with Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman, Fidan briefly said the following:
Unfortunately, we observe with concern that the war has spread to the entire region. This war must be ended as soon as possible.
We have full will not to resort to provocation. Türkiye does not want to take part in the ongoing unjust war. Türkiye will resist any provocation and will not be dragged into any war.
(Missiles directed towards Türkiye) I would like to point out that the understanding and constructive approach we have demonstrated does not mean that we will compromise our national security in the slightest. We are in direct contact with our Iranian counterparts regarding this grave incident.
For a very long time, we have been persistently drawing attention to the chaos caused in our region by the expansionist policies and fundamentalist ideology of the Netanyahu government.
Israel’s closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque for worship is an extremely dangerous step that could trigger a new outrage in our region. Israel wants to drag Lebanon back into a humanitarian disaster and permanent political instability.
