“ISRAEL IS DEEPENING REGIONAL INSTABILITY”

Israel’s attacks on Lebanon and the ground operation it launched, in serious violation of international and humanitarian law, further deepen regional instability.

On the other hand, Israel continues to violate the ceasefire reached in Gaza and continues its pressure on the West Bank, including preventing Muslims from the right to worship during the holy month of Ramadan.

DEVELOPMENTS IN THE STRAIT OF HORmuz ARE BEING CLOSELY FOLLOWED

The latest statements regarding ensuring maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz and the calls made to allied countries in this context are followed closely and carefully by us.

The Strait of Hormuz is of strategic importance in terms of global energy supply security and the continuity of international maritime trade, and it is of great importance to protect freedom of navigation in the region and prevent the escalation of tension.

In this context, Türkiye evaluates the developments from the perspective of regional peace and stability and reiterates its call on all parties to exercise moderation and act in accordance with international law.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan will visit Saudi Arabia today and attend the meeting in Riyadh where the developments in the region will be discussed.

At the meeting to be hosted by Saudi Arabia, there will be representatives of Azerbaijan, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Qatar, Kuwait, Pakistan, Syria and Jordan, as well as Türkiye.

According to information obtained from Ministry of Foreign Affairs sources, it is expected that Türkiye, as well as Azerbaijan, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Qatar, Kuwait, Pakistan, Syria and Jordan will be represented at the meeting to be hosted by Saudi Arabia.

Foreign Minister Fidan is expected to note at the meeting that it is important to continue efforts to end the war in the region through negotiations and peaceful methods, and that if the war is not ended, it may cause permanent and irreparable damage to the relations between the countries in the region.

Minister Fidan is planned to emphasize that Türkiye regrets the attacks on the Gulf countries, that these attacks without provocation are unacceptable and pose serious risks for the future of the region, and is also expected to point out the importance of the countries in the region to display a moderate attitude in order not to be drawn into the war.

While Fidan is expected to point out at the meeting that the understanding of regional ownership is more important than ever in solving regional problems, it is also planned to emphasize that Türkiye is ready to contribute to diplomatic initiatives that will contribute to the establishment of stability in the region and to touch upon the negative effects of the spread of conflicts to a wider geography on energy security, trade routes and global economic stability.

At the meeting, Fidan is expected to note that current developments in the region may create security gaps and these can be exploited by terrorist organizations, and that the international community should take a more active role in preventing conflicts and reducing tension. He is also expected to point out that Israel’s attacks on Lebanon may put this country at risk of disintegration, and that mass displacements in the country are worrying.

In addition, Minister Fidan is planned to draw attention to the fact that the latest developments in the region should not be allowed to distract the attention of the international community from the Palestine issue, and the importance of keeping the oppression and humanitarian tragedy in Palestine strongly on the agenda in all international platforms.
