Minister Göktaş: “Ensuring security in the digital environment is a global responsibility”

Published

on

In his speech at the international meeting titled “International Policy and Practice Sharing on the Protection of Children in the Digital Environment” held in a hotel in the capital with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s wife, Emine Erdoğan, Göktaş stated that they are together to address one of the most critical issues of the age in all its dimensions. Stating that they aim to create an international cooperation basis to provide a safe digital environment for children with the two-day program, Göktaş thanked UNICEF and the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General on Violence Against Children for their contributions, and expressed his gratitude to First Lady Erdoğan for their participation.

Minister Göktaş: Ensuring security in the digital environment is a global responsibility

Emphasizing that children are now growing up at the very center of the digital world, Göktaş said: “According to UNICEF data, one child in the world is introduced to the internet every half a second. Children are living a life intertwined with screens. This new reality imposes a very clear responsibility on us, to protect our children in the digital space with determination. The digital world offers great opportunities, yes. It facilitates access to information, yes. It diversifies learning opportunities and makes children’s talents visible. However, the same field carries with it multi-layered risks such as bullying, abuse, addiction, privacy violation, harmful content and manipulation. This “These risks can lead to serious consequences that increase anxiety in children, deepen loneliness and cause depressive effects. On the other hand, OECD findings reveal that children are also surrounded by data privacy violations, invisible guidance of algorithms and targeted advertising.”

Minister Göktaş: Ensuring security in the digital environment is a global responsibility

Pointing out that technologies such as deepfake reveal more complex and dangerous forms of child abuse, Göktaş said, “For this reason, we have to consider digital environments not only as a technical development area, but also with legal, ethical, educational and social policy dimensions. Ensuring the safety of our children in digital environments is not only a national but a global responsibility. In this direction, we aim to create a strong and sustainable international cooperation basis.” he said. Göktaş noted that at this point, a framework that strengthens protective and preventive mechanisms is needed more than ever, and said that this framework should support the family, include the school in the process, impose clear responsibilities on digital platforms and maintain strong international cooperation.

Göktaş, whose statement at the police station was completed, was transferred to the Istanbul Palace of Justice in Çağlayan. CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and Gürsel Tekin went to the courthouse to support Göktaş. However, Kılıçdaroğlu was protested by Göktaş’s friends and some lawyers, calling him ‘Traitor Kemal’.

HIS STATEMENT HAS BEEN REVEALED
Göktaş’s statement at the police station was revealed. Stating that he is a comedian and has a high income, Göktaş said that the YouTube channel that is the subject of the investigation belongs to him and that the video is a recording of the stand-up show he performed at Harbiye Cemil Topuzlu Open Air Theater on June 1. Answering the question about whether the expressions he used in the show were prepared in advance, Göktaş said, “The text of the speeches in this stand-up show belongs to a text I had prepared before.”

REFERRAL LETTER LIKE A COURSE
Deniz Göktaş, whose statement proceedings were completed at the prosecutor’s office, was referred to the Criminal Judgeship of Peace on Duty with a request for arrest. In the prosecutor’s referral letter, the limits of freedom of expression were explained. In the article, it was emphasized that the honor and reputation of individuals are under the guarantee of the Constitution and that insults, slander, swearing, obscene expressions and speeches that encourage hatred, discrimination and violence cannot be considered within the scope of freedom of expression. It was pointed out that in democratic societies, individuals’ ability to express their thoughts freely is a fundamental right, but this right is not unlimited. While it was learned that there were 185 different CIMER applications and complaints against Göktaş, Göktaş was arrested and sent to prison by the Criminal Judgeship of Peace on Duty, on charges of ‘insulting religious values’ and ‘insulting the President’.

FATHER GÖKTAŞ RECEIVED 3 DIFFERENT PRISON SENTENCES
On the other hand, it was revealed that his father, Kemal Göktaş, whom Göktaş described as a “good father”, “political father”, “father who takes action” in the show he performed in Harbiye, which he called “Dead Sea”, participated in armed actions within the terrorist organization of the Turkish People’s Liberation Army (THKO) in the 1980s. It was revealed that Göktaş was active within THKO in the 1980s, participated in the Çorum events, and was caught with weapons and ammunition. It was learned that Kemal Göktaş was sentenced to 10 years’ heavy imprisonment by the Erzincan Martial Law 1st Military Criminal Court, 3 years and 9 months’ heavy imprisonment by the Ankara 1st State Security Court, and 5 years’ hard imprisonment by the Ankara Martial Law 2nd Military Court, and remained in prison for a while.

WARNING FROM RELIGIOUS DIVINE SACRED HAS NO HUMOR
After Göktaş was detained due to the statements he used in his stand-up show, the Friday sermon sent by Diyanet to mosques all over Türkiye attracted attention. It was stated that the holy people were sometimes mocked in the sermon under the name of humor. The following statements were included in the sermon: “Consumption culture brought by the modern age, unconscious use of digital channels, and sometimes ridiculing our sacred values under the name of humor, are alienating our children from our values day by day. Pure minds face the risk of being lost in the vortex of superstitions, perverted movements, addiction and peer bullying.”
