Esra Albayrak, Chairman of the Board of NUN Education and Culture Foundation, wrote an article for The Jakarta Post newspaper. Referring to the Bandung Conference held in Indonesia in April 1955, Albayrak reminded that the conference participant countries gathered to “determine their own agenda”.

Albayrak pointed out that Western powers were not invited to the conference in question and emphasized that this was a conscious choice.

Albayrak made the assessment that Bandung declared that the majority of humanity could chart its own path in a world where meetings without the West were “considered unimportant” and noted that this was achieved with the Non-Aligned Movement that emerged.

Albayrak stated that the Non-Aligned Movement is not just a diplomatic stance; He stated that it is an outlet that declares that the world is wider than the frameworks imposed on it.

Noting that this claim is still not complete, Albayrak said, “What the Bandung generation faced was not only political dependency; it was also a situation that was harder to name and therefore harder to eliminate: addiction to ways of knowing.” he said.

Albayrak evaluated what sociologist Syed Hussein Alatas called this “captive mind” and described it as an intellectual who examines his own society only with categories produced externally and accepts borrowed tools as universal truths.

Underlining that the captive mind is not aware of its captivity, Albayrak said, “The intellectual legacy of colonialism was designed to provide exactly this.” made his assessment.

Albayrak noted that the Bandung Conference was a turning point in the struggle for political independence and pointed out the difficulties in achieving independence of thought, knowledge and imagination.

“COLONIALISM DID NOT END, IT CHANGED ITS FORM”

“In this sense, colonialism did not end in the 1960s; it changed form.” Albayrak said:

“Financial systems, educational models and legal frameworks have been restructured to make the colonial order seem natural and inevitable. What we call the ‘post-colonial world’ today is actually a continuation of colonialism operating under a new language and maintaining an unbroken continuity.”

‘I THINK UMUT ALTAŞ IS THE PERSON WHO WILL SOLVE THE INCIDENT’

Regarding the red notice issued about Umut Altaş, Gürlek said, “We want his extradition. We have communicated the sensitivity and the process with the US authorities due to the importance of the matter. We hope for his extradition. I think Umut Altaş is the person who will solve the case. Because he is the closest witness of the incident. He also escapes abroad under suspicion. The investigation continues, our Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office continues. Our Erzurum Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office is also following the process, especially regarding the Governor.”

Regarding the regulatory work on identity verification in virtual media, Minister Gürlek said, “Its work is currently continuing. Our Ministry of Family and Social Services has passed a legal regulation package. We have also received similar examples. All of these are in the 12th package; social media regulation, increasing the penalties of children, are currently in the working phase. We will inform the public after reaching a certain stage.”

Speaking about the work carried out by the ministry regarding the ‘Terror-free Turkey’ process, Gürlek said, “The memorandum of understanding was published and came to the Parliament. Here, of course, the will of the Parliament belongs. We have explained it before. As the Ministry of Justice, if there is a need in the preparation phase of the laws, we are ready for this. But the making of the laws, determining the framework, and managing the process completely belong to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.”
