Erdogan and Tokayev will meet at the Presidential Complex to address the further strengthening of the Turkish-winner strategic partnership in Ankara.

In addition, under the co-chairmanship of the leaders, the 5th meeting of the high-level Strategic Cooperation Council of Türkiye-Kazakistan will be held.

At the meeting, it is expected that new targets will be determined in order to develop the Central Corridor passing through the borders of both Turkey and Kazakhstan, and to develop cooperation in the fields of energy, defense industry, mutual trade, agriculture, media and culture, as well as the steps to deepen this partnership with the existing “developed strategic partnership” between the two countries.

In the negotiations between the delegations of the two countries, the relations of Türkiye and Kazakhstan are expected to sign a large number of documents to strengthen the covenant floor.

Diplomatic Relations

The relations of Türkiye and Kazakhstan are of particular importance with the fact that the two people have brotherhood and historical ties from the same root.

Türkiye, with the collapse of the Soviet Union on December 16, 1991, which gained independence Kazakhstan as the first to recognize and support the registration of the country, while the diplomatic relations between the two countries were officially established on 2 March 1992. Since its independence from Kazakhstan, more than 20 official visits have been made to Türkiye in its capacity as President. Kasım Cömert Tokayev, who was elected as the president in 2019, held a bilateral meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan 14 times.

At the same time, Kazakhstan and Turkey, the founding countries of the Organization of Turkish States (TDT), carry out activities to reinforce the role of the organization in the international arena, and the Turkish world’s Parliamentary Assembly (TURKPA), Turkish Academy, Turkish Culture Organization (TURKSOY) and Turkish Culture and Heritage Foundation.

The two countries also have bilateral and multilateral cooperation within organizations such as the United Nations (UN), the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Cooperation and Confidence Increasing Measures in Asia, and the Organization of Economic Cooperation.

Mutual trade

Despite the existing global geopolitical and geoeconomic crises, mutual trade between the two countries is growing.

In 2024, the mutual trade volume between Kazakhstan and Türkiye was recorded as 5 billion dollars. According to the latest data of the Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan, this number exceeded $ 1.9 billion in January-May this year.

Türkiye stands out as one of the biggest investor partners in Kazakhstan. Between 2005 and 2024, Türkiye has invested $ 5.2 billion in the Kazakhstan economy, while 3 thousand 538 Turkish capital companies operate in the country.

Currently, 78 joint projects between Türkiye and Kazakhstan have been implemented.

The cooperation in the fields of education and tourism in Kazakhstan relations with Türkiye is also noteworthy.

Currently, more than 12,000 young people in Kazakhstan have been studying higher education in Türkiye, while 300 more Kazakh students were entitled to “Türkiye Scholarships” in 2024-2025.

Türkiye is one of the most preferred routes for the abroad of Kazakhstan citizens. Last year, the number of Kazakh tourists on holiday in Türkiye reached 863 thousand people. In the same year, the number of tourists coming from Türkiye to Kazakhstan was 130 thousand people.
