Top TÜSİAD officials to stand trial in May
ISTANBUL

An Istanbul court has accepted an indictment seeking prison sentences for the leaders of the Turkish Industry and Business Association (TÜSİAD), with the two businessmen set to stand trial in May.
class=”cf”>
TÜSİAD Chairman Orhan Turan and High Advisory Council (YİK) President Mehmet Ömer Arif Aras have been under judicial scrutiny since a February meeting, where they argued that ongoing probes into opposition figures fuel uncertainty and public concern, causing economic instability.
Both executives were interrogated last month and subjected to a travel ban.
Local media on March 10 reported that the indictment against Turan and Aras was formally accepted.
The defendants, facing potential imprisonment of up to five years and six months, are slated to appear before the court on May 20.
The indictment accuses them of spreading misleading and manipulative statements regarding political, legal, judicial, and administrative matters beyond their knowledge.
It further states that their comments exceeded the limits of freedom of expression and opinion, arguing that they cannot be considered within the scope of the right to news or information.

In their statements to the prosecutors last month, both Turan and Aras denied the accusations and contested the travel ban, arguing that their work required frequent international visits.
“The main focus of my remarks was what steps should be taken to advance Türkiye’s economy,” Turan said.

“IT CREATES THE IMAGE OF A SERIOUS CRISIS”
Stating that the complaints, mutual accusations and congress-oriented tensions within the CHP have become unhidden, Yayman said, “The fact that the discussions within the party have been dragged to this point creates the appearance of a serious crisis. It is also unacceptable that the CHP is trying to attribute this situation it is experiencing to the AK Party. You cannot change the facts by placing the responsibility of your own crisis on others.” he said.
“DEMOCRACY LIVES BY TOLERANCE, RESPECT AND LAW, NOT BY PRESSURE AND AGGRESSION”
Yayman said, “It is unacceptable to talk about press freedom on the one hand and attack every microphone you don’t like, to target journalists and to use threatening language. Democracy lives with tolerance, respect and law, not with oppression and aggression.” he said.

AK Party Deputy Chairman Ahmet Büyükgümüş: We are not a party to CHP’s own internal issue
AK Party Deputy Chairman Ahmet Büyükgümüş made the following statements in his post on his social media account:
“Those who apply to the court are from CHP, those who present evidence are from CHP, those who accuse each other are from CHP, the parties to the congress debate are from CHP…
When it comes to paying the political price of internal showdowns, the target is again our President and the AK Party. Neither their internal congress fight nor their seat fight is on our and our nation’s agenda.
We are not a party to CHP’s own internal issue. However, our answer to every unfair accusation against our President and our party is clear: Everyone should know their place. “He should not try to cover up his own crises on us.”
