President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan hosted Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic at the Social Complex yesterday. Speaking at the Agreements Signing Ceremony and Joint Press Conference held after the talks, Erdoğan said:

Total trade volume reached 3.5 billion dollars last year. We are approaching our 5 billion dollar target step by step. We have previously announced that we will participate in Expo2027, which will be held in Belgrade, hosted by Serbia. We believe that this important event will serve as an additional opportunity to develop economic, commercial and cultural relations between our countries.

The number of companies operating in Serbia exceeded 1500, and the total investment amount reached 300 million dollars. Our contractors support the production of housing, roads and infrastructure in Serbia with more than 100 projects they have undertaken.

Our citizens rank first among tourists visiting Serbia. We see great interest in learning Turkish in Serbia. We are working to ensure that this interest is adequately met by institutions such as Yunus Emre Institute and Turkish Maarif Foundation.

We also discussed with Mr. Vucic what can be done for the development of the Sandzak Region, which we see as a bridge of friendship between us and Serbia. We follow his projects for the development of the region. I would like to take this opportunity to wholeheartedly congratulate the upcoming Ramadan of the Muslim community in Serbia.

At a time when uncertainty is increasing in the world, as Türkiye, we are working with all our strength to establish peace and tranquility in our immediate surroundings and beyond. The light that illuminates the path of humanity has risen from the East for many years. Istanbul became the home of science and science. With the Republic period, these gains were tried to be further strengthened. The link between the past and the future was somehow established. Now we need to further strengthen this accumulation, complete its shortcomings and make it even better. I believe that it is essential to focus on producing original and qualified information. We sincerely want our 208 higher education institutions to be Türkiye’s vision center.

We attach importance to the localization efforts of our universities and professors, while doing universal work. I welcome Boğaziçi University to take steps in this direction. Thank you. “WE ARE WALKING TOWARDS OUR GOALS”

Education is one of the issues we attach most importance to. The budget allocated to education 23 years ago was 7.5 billion lira, and in 2026 this figure reached 3 trillion lira. We increased the number of universities from 76 to 208 and the number of academic staff from 70 thousand to 180 thousand. More than 350 thousand guest students from 198 countries of the world study at our universities. We increased the number of dormitories from 190 in 2022 to 880 today. We brought our bed capacity to 1 million. We provide scholarships or loans to every student who applies. We also support our young friends in participating in business life. Boğaziçi University Faculty of Law will hopefully have its first graduates this year.

I would like to share two important good news. We are rebuilding Boğaziçi University Library. Congratulations in advance to our new library, which has an investment value of 2 billion lira. Next year, we will build a modern laboratory building for Boğaziçi University with an investment of 3 billion liras. Good luck. We will continue to produce for our youth.
