The path to peace passes through Ankara – Last Minute News
While Israel continues its efforts to ‘disturb the balance of the world’ with its expansionist policies, Türkiye continues to be the hope of ‘diplomacy’ by pointing to peace. The Antalya Diplomatic Forum (ADF), which revealed Türkiye’s vision to the world, left its mark on global diplomacy. 6,400 participants from 150 countries and 66 international organizations attended the forum, which was held with the theme of ‘Constructing Tomorrow, Managing Uncertainties’. 23 heads of state and government, 13 deputy heads of state and government and 50 ministers were hosted. Participants had the opportunity to evaluate and gain information on all current issues, especially the Gaza and Iran crisis. In the panels, Türkiye’s past activities were praised and the steps it took for the future were mentioned.
FOUNDER OF Türkiye PEACE DESK
Speaking to SABAH, International Committee of the Red Cross Vice President Jürg Lauber said, “We work very closely and wonderfully with Turkey on peace issues. I can definitely say that Turkey is a complete founder of the peace table. This has been the case for years. Turkey does great work in mediation and negotiations in many different regions of the world.” Celso Luiz Nene, chief advisor to Brazilian leader Silva, stated that Türkiye’s success in diplomacy is not a coincidence and said, “The most important element in diplomacy is trust, and it is present in countries like Türkiye.”

MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS FİDAN: ISRAELI EXPANSION IS IN TROUBLE
Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan held a press conference on the last day of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum. Making evaluations at the press conference, which attracted great attention from the world press, Fidan stated that Israel’s real intention is the policy of dehumanization and said, “Israel’s expansionism problem has become a security problem not only in the region but also in the world.” Noting that the ceasefire between Iran and Israel/USA should be extended, Fidan said, “It is not easy for the US and Iran to solve the problems in two weeks. Turkey continues its diplomatic traffic to extend the ceasefire between the US and Iran.” Referring to Israel’s alliance with Southern Cyprus and Greece, Fidan said, “The threat priority is clear when these three countries come together and establish a military alliance.” Fidan said, “No one told us that this alliance is not against you” and pointed out that Türkiye has the qualifications and power to protect itself. Here are the highlights from Fidan’s speech:
WE ARE SEEKING TO END THE CONFLICT
❱ Minister Fidan stated that at the quadripartite meeting held with Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Pakistan, they discussed steps to support peace and stability in the region and possible initiatives to permanently establish freedom of navigation, and that they determined the concrete steps they will take in order to develop a common vision for the future of the region. Stating that Israel came together with Greece and the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus and formed a military alliance against Muslims in the region, Fidan said, “We are not doing what they do. How can we extinguish the conflicts in our region, how can we ensure economic progress, how can we achieve stability? We are in search of this.”

THE KEY TO PEACE
❱ We discussed the Gaza Peace Plan at the meeting where 6 Muslim countries came together and confirmed our common will regarding the process. The Gaza Peace Plan has an implementation process. Mechanisms such as the Peace Board began to be implemented. We mainly discussed where the vision to stop and reverse the Gaza Genocide brought us. We see diplomacy as the key to peace. We will continue to act as a mediator between the parties.
CEASE CEASE PERIOD SHOULD BE EXTENDED
❱ There is a confused situation in minds regarding the Strait of Hormuz. We also follow the application closely. We will continue to inform the public as developments occur. The ceasefire period needs to be extended. It is not easy for the USA and Iran to solve the problems in two weeks. Türkiye continues its diplomatic traffic to extend the ceasefire between the USA and Iran. Nobody wants war to start again after the (US-Iran) ceasefire ends next week.

WE WILL DO OUR BEST
❱ It is considered that Lebanon should be included as a part of this general ceasefire to create an opportunity for negotiations. The whole world public opinion wants the negotiations to continue. The negativity (of the war) on energy security is obvious. We stand in solidarity with the Lebanese people. Lebanon is once again falling victim to the brutal grip of war. While struggling with fragmentation, it should not be allowed to face Israeli occupation, and we will do our best for this.
HOPES FOR Türkiye
❱ Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dibeybe said that they “want Türkiye’s support to build a single Libyan army under a single civilian command.” ❱ Serbian Prime Minister Duro Macut: Pointing out that Türkiye’s presence in the Western Balkans is a “great advantage”, Macut said, “The wisdom of the Turks and Türkiye will provide great support in solving critical problems.” ❱ El Salvador Vice President Felix Ulloa stated that economic relations with Turkey have strengthened and said, “We are very grateful to the Turkish private sector and we invite them to our country to work in other fields such as geothermal energy.” he said.

OUR VISION AND OUR EFFORTS ARE CLEAR
Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan said, “We are following the Russia-Ukraine peace processes. We need to continue peace efforts. As Turkey, our vision and effort are obvious here. We brought the parties together in Istanbul three times last summer. We are ready to bring them together again.”

‘LET ADF CONDUCT RESULTS THAT GROUND PEACE’
Emine Erdoğan, wife of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, shared a video about the 5th Antalya Diplomatic Forum (ADF). In her post on her social account, First Lady Erdoğan said, “I hope that the fifth Antalya Diplomacy Forum, which highlights the unifying power of diplomacy and where different cultures, languages and perspectives meet on a sincere basis, will lead to results that root peace.”

‘Türkiye IS AN IMPORTANT STABILIZER’
Hanna Serwaa Tetteh, Special Representative of the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General for Libya and Head of the UN Support Mission (UNSMIL) in the country, said that Türkiye plays an important stabilizing role in the region. Tetteh said, “Türkiye played an important stabilizing role (in Libya). Without Türkiye’s support, I think we would not be able to achieve the stability we have now, especially in Western Libya.”

PRAISE WAS RAINED FOR Türkiye’S HOSTING: ALL CONTINENTS WERE BROUGHT TOGETHER IN A FRIENDLY
❱ Abdürrahim Dusak, President of the Turkish Group of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation: Türkiye is a country where cultures gather and can live together in a brotherly and friendly manner. We saw this once again in Antalya.
❱ OIC Deputy Secretary General for Science and Technology Khokher: Türkiye offers an excellent opportunity with participation not only from Islamic countries but from all continents.
❱ Guinea-Bissau Foreign Minister Joao Bernardo Viera II: Türkiye is an important partner. We aim to strengthen cooperation to harmonize our positions with Türkiye at the international level.
❱ Icelandic Foreign Minister Thorgerdur Katrin Gunnarsdottir: The NATO Summit to be held in Ankara in July is “challenging and important”. However, it is in “safe hands” hosted by Türkiye.

ANTALYA DIPLOMACY FORUM IS A GIFT TO THE WORLD
❱ Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz: Türkiye continues to be a base for diplomacy and to reveal the possibility and claim of a different future. ❱ Turkish Grand National Assembly Foreign Affairs Commission Chairman Oktay: The heart of diplomacy beat in Antalya. We held the Antalya Diplomacy Forum (ADF) in an environment where diplomacy has been forgotten in the world and mutual trust and communication have disappeared. ❱ AK Party Deputy Chairman and Head of Relations with Turkish States Kürşad Zorlu: Antalya Diplomatic Forum revealed how realistic and justified Türkiye’s emphasis on “safe harbour” is. ❱ AK Party Deputy Chairman Hasan Basri Yalçın: Antalya Diplomatic Forum is Türkiye’s gift to the world. It is a very suitable and useful ground for keeping diplomacy alive, trying to prevent wars, and building diplomatic networks.
THE CLOSING WAS DONE BY AFRICAN GUESTS
The reflections of Türkiye’s bond with Africa for more than 20 years were clearly seen in AFD. Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan hosted the Africa event on the last day of the Fifth ADF margin. Representatives from African countries such as Botswana, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Uganda, Sao Tome and Prinsipe, Mozambique, Nigeria, Republic of South Africa, Angola, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Mauritania, Niger, Sudan and Chad attended the event.

AK Party’s reaction to Özgür Özel: This is the clearest proof of the incompetence in CHP
AK Party Deputy Chairman, Promotion and Media Chairman Faruk Acar reacted with harsh words to CHP Chairman Özgür Özel’s words targeting President Erdoğan and MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli.
“IT IS THE CLEAREST PROVIDENCE OF THE IMPORCEMENT IN CHP”
This unconscious and reckless mentality, which is unaware of even the words coming out of its own mouth and does not know what it is talking about, is the clearest proof of the incompetence in the CHP. This incompetence that the CHP Chairman is accused of is now an eclipse of reason. The frivolity of the short-sighted person who has been calling Palestine Israel for two days clearly shows how much we should take him into consideration on other issues of which he is ignorant.

“The place where those ugly expressions suit is next to him”
Another reaction to Özel came from AK Party Deputy Chairman and Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik. Çelik made the following statements:
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel should be very careful about the expressions he uses when talking about our President and Mr. Devlet Bahçeli. We return those ugly statements to Özgür Özel himself. The place where those ugly expressions suit him is next to himself. Özgür Özel’s mentioning of our President in the same sentence as Netanyahu is an example of political folly. The Özgür Özel mentality is an unqualified and unconscious mentality that calls Hamas a terrorist organization, calls Palestinian children Israelis, and still shows its side today. Let Özgür Özel make the indefinite statements that attempt to question our President’s sensitivity towards Palestine in Gaza, the West Bank or Jerusalem, and let him see the response he will receive from our Palestinian brothers. It is very clear that our Palestinian brothers will regard anyone who tries to question our President’s Palestinian sensitivity as a “collaborator of the Netanyahu mentality”.
NEW GAF FROM ÖZGÜR ÖZEL: WE ARE TOGETHER WITH ISRAEL
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, who said “71 thousand Israeli babies died” instead of “71 thousand Palestinians died” in a speech, made another blunder less than 24 hours after these words. The CHP leader, who tried to put President Erdoğan on the same side with Netanyahu at his party’s group meeting, said, “We are on the same side with Israel and we are together.”

Minister Akın Gürlek: The trial process in the Sumud Fleet file has officially started
Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek, in his post on his social media account, stated that he hosted the valuable lawyers of Sumud Fleet, which has become one of the symbols of the struggle for humanity, at the Ministry. Stating that the blocking of humanitarian aid intended to be delivered to Gaza once again clearly reveals Israel’s approach to systematically violating international humanitarian law, Gürlek said, “The indictment prepared by our Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office regarding the attack on the Sumud Flotilla has been accepted; the trial process has officially started in the file containing the most serious accusations such as crimes against humanity, genocide, torture and plunder.” he said.
“STRONG WILL FOR THE BUILDING OF A JUST WORLD”
Minister Gürlek stated that in the face of attacks targeting the right to life of Gaza civilians, determined struggles continue to hold those responsible accountable before international law. Gürlek said, “Under the leadership of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, our country will continue to defend the just cause of the Palestinian people on every international platform; to stand by the Palestinians against oppression and to demonstrate a strong will for the construction of a more just world.” he said.

Harsh reaction from Türkiye to Greece: “It is null and void”
In the statement made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was stated that the Greek Fisheries Control Directorate has established prohibited fishing zones in areas over which it does not have authority, and said, “It has been determined that Greece has established fishing prohibited zones in some areas in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean where it does not have authority, and that various maps have been published contrary to international law on the official website of the Greek Fisheries Control Directorate. Maps that draw non-existent, imaginary maritime borders between Turkey and Greece in the Aegean and the Mediterranean and violate Turkish maritime jurisdictions there are not valid. Greece’s 6 seas.” “The illegal restrictions it imposes on fishing activities in areas over which it has no authority, in maritime areas and in international waters, beyond its 10000-mile-wide territorial waters, are also null and void for Türkiye.”
“WE REMEMBER THE DECLARATION OF ATHENS ON FRIENDLY RELATIONS AND GOOD NEIGHBORHOOD”
Stating that Greece acted against international law, he said, “Turkey will not accept any unilateral and illegal measures that may be brought against the legitimate activities of Turkish fishermen based on international law and historical rights. With this understanding, we remind that Türkiye maintains its stance that a sincere and comprehensive approach should be adopted for the solution of problems on the basis of international law, equity and good neighborliness within the framework of the Athens Declaration on Friendly Relations and Good Neighbourhood, dated 7 December 2023.”

First Lady Erdoğan: “It is imperative for technology companies to make child-friendly designs”
“WE NEED SOLID BORDERS”
Stating that she sees families as the most important stakeholders in their goal of making digital environments safe for children and a useful medium that contributes to their educational lives, First Lady Erdoğan said, “If we are going to pull our children out of the eerie back streets of the digital world and raise them as strong and conscious young people who will shoulder the future, we must do this by joining hands with parents.” he said. Explaining that there are several formulas for this task, First Lady Erdoğan said: “The first of these is the reconstruction of the borders destroyed by digitalization. Because the basis of many problems that humanity cannot solve in our age is the equation of limitlessness with freedom. However, real freedom is not the ability to do whatever one wants, but the ability of a person to think critically, above all. It is the ability to draw boundaries against the elements that will invade one’s mind, mind and soul. It is well said that what distinguishes medicine from poison is the dose. In other words, technology provides While it has the potential to move humanity forward with its benefits, it can threaten the future of humanity if left uncontrolled. Likewise, while digitalization increases efficiency in many areas from business processes to daily life, if the situation goes unnoticed, our children’s lives can suddenly be invaded by digital nannies, digital friends, and digital playgrounds. That’s why we need solid borders.
“FAMILY IS OUR ONLY SHELTER AGAINST LIFE’S VARIOUS STORMS”
Stating that she is sure that every parent knows very well the dynamics of this job and where the boundaries should be drawn, First Lady Erdoğan continued: “Because parenting is the oldest profession in the world. Today, if a child wants to get up and go out alone in the middle of the night, would we allow him? Would we allow someone he does not know to take him by the hand? Or would we allow him to gamble, be exposed to perverted propaganda, or attempt something that would put his life at risk? Our common answer to all of these will, of course, be ‘No’. Then, Let’s draw safe boundaries for our children, without forgetting that they may face the same dangers in digital environments. Likewise, our educators are the architects and protectors of the borders that guarantee true freedom. I believe that with a common understanding and strong cooperation, we can give children digital literacy skills and reconcile them with boundaries, and give a new direction to the current situation. Another solution that will make digital environments safe for children is strengthened communication within the family. Therefore, it is more than communicating eye to eye, heart to heart, face to face, and spending time together as a family. Let’s not give up. It is a fact that family is our only shelter against all kinds of storms of life today, as it was yesterday. Emphasizing that she found the exchange of ideas at the meeting very important, First Lady Erdoğan said that they would share good practices, develop joint projects and encourage technology companies to implement higher standards in child safety. First Lady Erdoğan stated that she believes that these efforts will yield very beneficial results for children, such as organizing global campaigns for parents and supporting programs that will increase the digital skills of young people, and stated that, as Turkey, they are ready to contribute to all kinds of constructive initiatives in line with this common goal. After her speech, First Lady Erdoğan was presented with a painting depicting “liberation from the digital world cage” by a child.
The program ended with a family photo taken. Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, Uzbekistan National Social Protection Agency First Deputy Chairman Shakhnoza Shavkatovna Mirziyoyeva, Austrian Federal Minister for European Union, Integration and Family Claudia Bauer, Montenegrin Minister of Social Welfare, Family Care and Demography Damir Gutic, Nigerian Minister of Women’s Affairs and Social Development İmaan Sulaiman İbrahim, Tunisian Minister of Family, Women, Children and Elderly People Asma Jabri, Serbian Minister Responsible for Gender Equality, Prevention of Violence Against Women and Women’s Economic and Political Empowerment Tatjana Macura, AK Party Group Deputy Chairman Leyla Şahin Usta, AK Party Deputy Chairman Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya and Kürşad Zorlu, UN Secretary General Special Representative on Violence Against Children Najat Maalla M’jid, UNICEF Europe and Central Asia Regional Director Regina De Dominicis, Deputy Minister of Labor and Population Social Protection of Turkmenistan Halbibi Tachjanova, Chairman of the State Committee on Family, Women and Children Issues of Azerbaijan Bahar Muradova, President of the National Women’s Council of Egypt Maya Morsy, Advisor on Social Protection to the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Director of the National Social Protection Agency Mansurbek Polvonzoda Olloyorov, Executive Assistant to the Secretary General of the Family Affairs Council of Saudi Arabia Haya Almaqwashi, some MPs, deputy ministers and the newspaper and representatives of television channels attended.

Minister Göktaş: “Ensuring security in the digital environment is a global responsibility”
In his speech at the international meeting titled “International Policy and Practice Sharing on the Protection of Children in the Digital Environment” held in a hotel in the capital with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s wife, Emine Erdoğan, Göktaş stated that they are together to address one of the most critical issues of the age in all its dimensions. Stating that they aim to create an international cooperation basis to provide a safe digital environment for children with the two-day program, Göktaş thanked UNICEF and the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General on Violence Against Children for their contributions, and expressed his gratitude to First Lady Erdoğan for their participation.
Emphasizing that children are now growing up at the very center of the digital world, Göktaş said: “According to UNICEF data, one child in the world is introduced to the internet every half a second. Children are living a life intertwined with screens. This new reality imposes a very clear responsibility on us, to protect our children in the digital space with determination. The digital world offers great opportunities, yes. It facilitates access to information, yes. It diversifies learning opportunities and makes children’s talents visible. However, the same field carries with it multi-layered risks such as bullying, abuse, addiction, privacy violation, harmful content and manipulation. This “These risks can lead to serious consequences that increase anxiety in children, deepen loneliness and cause depressive effects. On the other hand, OECD findings reveal that children are also surrounded by data privacy violations, invisible guidance of algorithms and targeted advertising.”
Pointing out that technologies such as deepfake reveal more complex and dangerous forms of child abuse, Göktaş said, “For this reason, we have to consider digital environments not only as a technical development area, but also with legal, ethical, educational and social policy dimensions. Ensuring the safety of our children in digital environments is not only a national but a global responsibility. In this direction, we aim to create a strong and sustainable international cooperation basis.” he said. Göktaş noted that at this point, a framework that strengthens protective and preventive mechanisms is needed more than ever, and said that this framework should support the family, include the school in the process, impose clear responsibilities on digital platforms and maintain strong international cooperation.

Minister Kurum: “Countries must fulfill their commitments”
Murat Kurum, Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and President of the 31st United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31), held a joint press conference with German Minister of Environment, Climate Protection, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety Carsten Schneider. Making a speech here, Kurum said, “Countries must fulfill the commitments they have made so far.”
Minister Kurum held a joint press conference with German Minister of Environment, Climate Protection, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety Carsten Schneider within the scope of the 17th Petersberg Climate Dialogue in Berlin, the capital of Germany. Minister Kurum stated that he was pleased to share Türkiye’s COP31 presidency vision here and said, “We are coming together at a time when many crises are experienced. Unfortunately, in many parts of the world, there are crises that we do not want. These crises actually emphasize once again the importance of the work we do.” made his assessment. Stating that it is clearly seen that the need for collective action continues in this process, Kurum said, “We prove that fossil fuels do not guarantee the security of energy supply. This is also very important. We know that depending only on fossil fuels means walking towards volatility, insecurity and climate collapse.” he said. Pointing out the need to invest in alternative sources, Minister Kurum said, “The most important alternative investment source is renewable energies. And in this sense, the diversity we will demonstrate means stability, resilience and clean development. In other words, the will we show here is actually very important for our future.” he said. Stating that it was seen once again at the meeting that representatives of countries from all over the world came together in Berlin and participated in the process, Kurum said, “We have actually seen that many countries are still looking for common solutions at this point and showing this will. Of course, we clearly observe this: Multilateralism may have weakened, but it is never finished.” he commented.
“COUNTRIES MUST FULFILL THE COMMITMENTS THEY MADE TODAY”
Minister Kurum stated that countries must fulfill the requirements of the COP and said, “Countries must fulfill the commitments they have made so far. In other words, many COP meetings have been held. Dozens of decisions have been taken in many meetings. We clearly think that decision-making is over, words are over, action must be taken.” shared his opinion. In this sense, the institution noted that they expect countries to present their plans and report their progress transparently, and that this is important for the integrity and continuity of COP31. Underlining that they want to develop the process with concrete practices and get results, Kurum said, “We will establish consensus to nourish the norms and coalitions to carry out the implementation.” he said. Explaining that they have a strong cooperation with Australia regarding the negotiations, Minister Kurum said, “This cooperation will actually be realized in accordance with the spirit of the Paris Agreement, with a perspective and understanding in which all countries are included, everyone can express themselves freely and no one is left behind.” made his assessment. Reminding that the Turkish National Team will compete with Australia in the World Cup, Kurum said, “The only platform we expect to compete with Australia this year will be the World Cup group stage.” he said. Stating that the competition here will be tough, Kurum said, “However, when the match is over, we will continue to rework our common vision and common will for COP31. And we will increase that strong unity even further. In the end, friendship will win.” he said.
“WE WANT TO TRANSFER OUR EXPERIENCE TO THE WHOLE WORLD”
Minister Kurum stated that he announced the thematic priorities and implementation mechanisms of the COP31 presidency in Berlin to the whole world and said, “These include zero waste, clean energy, decarbonization in industry, oceans and seas, which concern us all. Food security… Today, in the area where we talk about climate change, there are still millions of people who cannot access clean food.” he commented. Emphasizing that they will not be modest in creating climate-resistant cities, Minister Kurum reminded that the disaster of the century occurred in the February 6 earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş in Türkiye. Minister Kurum continued his words as follows: “After these earthquakes, with the will of our President, we built and delivered 455 thousand houses to our citizens in 2 years with a view and understanding that are climate-sensitive and will minimize the effects of climate change. We want to transfer this experience to the whole world. That’s why we attach great importance to climate-resistant cities.” Stating that people see and feel that things are changing in the environment they live in, Kurum said, “Droughts are increasing, precipitation and weather events are increasing.
