Press Advertisement Institution’s “15 July Headlines Journalism Workshop” was completed at Istanbul University
In his speech at the program held in the Rectorate Building Foyer Area, BİK General Manager Abdulkadir Çay said that Istanbul University is one of the most established institutions of journalism education in Türkiye.
Stating that the Press Advertisement Institution was established in 1961 to mediate the publication of official announcements and advertisements in periodicals, Çay stated that internet news sites have been included in this scope as of 2023.
Çay stated that the institution also supports press organizations, associations and press workers, and said, “We are a unique institution in the world with its announcement and advertising distribution model in which the sector is holistically subsidized.” he said.
Pointing out that the “15 July Headlines Journalism Workshop” was implemented to develop accurate, fast and responsible journalism reflexes in times of crisis, Çay emphasized that the program was completed at Istanbul University, after Akdeniz, Ondokuz Mayıs, Ege, Ankara, Atatürk and Gaziantep universities.
Underlining that the workshop was organized with the theme of “Preserve the Memory, Write the Truth”, Çay pointed out that the students had the opportunity to experience the conditions of the journalists working on the night of July 15.
Explaining that some media organs made publications supporting anti-democratic interventions during the coup processes, Çay said, “The headlines ‘Turkish Army is on Duty’, ‘The Army Has Taken Over the Administration’, ‘We are in the Joy of the National Holiday’, which started before the 1960 Coup and continued in the following days, openly supporting the coup, have taken their place in history as shameful documents for our press.” he said.
Stating that similar publications were seen during the February 28 period, Çay also noted that heedless headlines were made such as “Four warnings from the Army”, “Tanks cannot be taken lightly”, “The Army is doing its duty”, etc. as the spokesman of the junta.
“HEADLINES WERE MADE THAT WON’T BE FORGOTTEN EVEN CENTURIES LAST”
Çay stated that the coup plotters failed when President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called the people to the squares on the night of July 15.
Stating that the Turkish press also acts with a total national consciousness, Çay said:
“Newspapers, televisions and radios were raided by FETO terrorists. The coup plotters who raided TRT even gave orders to ‘Shoot’ those who did not obey their treacherous instructions. They thought that these threats would scare both the media and the nation. However, like millions of people that night, Yeni Şafak newspaper employee Mustafa Cambaz said, ‘Those who carried out the uprising should not be able to sit down as they stood up. In fact, they should not be able to sit down at all. At the request and order of Commander-in-Chief Erdoğan, they took to the streets. ‘We’re going out.’ He shared. He went out to the streets, resisted, and while the bullets of the coup plotters pierced his chest, he became a martyr before he could see victory. Yes, a lot happened that night, but our media did not step back. Today, headlines were made in this workshop that will inspire you, our valued students, and that will not be forgotten even after 10 years or even centuries. “I congratulate hundreds of our popular and local newspapers once again for standing tall and publishing headlines such as ‘No Passage for a Coup’, ‘Slap of national will to the FETO coup’, ‘Traitors’ for the sake of the survival of the state.”
Istanbul University Vice Rector Mehmet Adak said that July 15 was an important turning point not only in terms of politics but also in terms of communication and media responsibility.
Adak said, “In such crisis moments when information spreads rapidly and disinformation intensifies, the ethical principles of the journalism profession, the verification reflex and the understanding of the public interest become even more critical.” he said.
Underlining that universities are not institutions that only transfer knowledge, Adak noted the importance of ethics, truth and public interest in communication education.
“DURING THAT NIGHT AND THE NEXT PERIOD, JOURNALISTS DID NOT ONLY TRANSPORT THE NEWS”
Istanbul University Faculty of Communication Dean Prof. Dr. Hatun Boztepe Taşkıran also said that the workshop brings together theoretical and practical journalism education.
Taşkıran pointed out that the workshop was very important because of the practical rethinking of media ethics, which constitute the main focuses of journalism education, the culture of verification and the understanding of journalism that carries public responsibility in times of crisis, and emphasized that, as the faculty of communication, they aim not only to write news, but also to train communicators who are committed to ethical values and have a developed awareness of social responsibility.
Prof. Dr. Taşkıran pointed out that the night of July 15, in addition to its negative effects on the political and social structure of the country, was also an extremely critical field of experience for the media and said, “On that night and in the following period, journalists not only reported news, but also fought against information pollution, tried to deliver verified information to the public, and continued their publishing activities under very difficult conditions. For this reason, crisis journalism has become one of the most important topics of today’s communication education.” he said.
– “WE REMEMBERED THE TRAITORY COUP ATTEMPT AGAIN WITH THE PARTICIPATION OF OUR STUDENTS”
In his statement to AA correspondent after the program, BİK General Manager Çay said that they were carrying out a special study in cooperation with universities on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of July 15.
“We remembered this treacherous coup attempt with the participation of our student brothers and sisters in those workshops. Their participation and inclusion in this process was very valuable.” Çay stated that 7 universities representing 7 regions of Türkiye were included in the program.
Stating that the program held at Istanbul University is the seventh leg of the series, Çay said that the students had hands-on experience with the processes of preparing headlines, designing pages, selecting photographs and creating news text together with experienced journalists, and added: “Therefore, we will remember, live and keep alive July 15 again and again.” he said.
Emphasizing that the workshop is also important in terms of university-sector cooperation, Çay said, “We see it as a platform where our student brothers and sisters have the opportunity to experience theory and practice together. Their perspective on the issue is important. We trust the work they will do. In fact, we are here today as an indicator of this trust.” he said.
Stating that the works produced within the scope of the workshop will be exhibited in July, Çay said, “Hopefully, we will be sharing the outputs as an exhibition in July. We are also looking forward to it.” gave the information.

Farmer included the following statements in his statement:
“As our esteemed President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated, we do not send back any of our Syrian brothers by force. We are based on voluntary, safe, honorable and regular returns, and we welcome the acceleration of returns as stability strengthens in Syria. We support this process, which is of great importance for Syria’s recovery, and we mobilize all our means to facilitate returns, especially the infrastructure works implemented in the northern regions.
We expressed our expectation to our Syrian counterparts to develop supportive, facilitative and encouraging policies for our returning brothers and sisters, and to accelerate the return and adaptation processes by resolving the problems especially in the field of security and shelter. The stability, security and territorial integrity of Syria are of great importance not only for the brotherly Syrian people, but also for the future of our region. As Türkiye, we will continue our sincere and constructive support for our neighbor Syria to regain peace, for the strengthening of state institutions, and for our Syrian brothers to live safely in their own land. “I hope that the cooperation we will strengthen will be beneficial for the common future of our countries and our region.”

The perception operation collapsed! Repeated denials of Murat Ongun’s allegations
The allegations in the court defense of Murat Ongun, who was detained in the IMM corruption case, were refuted. The statement made by the Center for Combating Disinformation regarding this statement of Murat Ongun, who claimed that his son’s allowance was taken during the search at his home, was reminded again. DMM stated that the allegations in some media outlets that “The police took the money from Murat Ongun’s son’s money box” were manipulation, and that no money was taken from any money bank during the search, and that the seized cash was found in the safe and in different parts of the house, according to the search report.
THE MONEY IN THE SAFE WAS SEIZED
In addition to 9 thousand 800 TL and 20 thousand TL found in different parts of Ongun’s residence, 31 thousand 50 euros, 1,640 pounds sterling, 227 dollars and 20 thousand TL, 13 thousand TL, 20 thousand TL and 100 TL found in the safe were seized. For this reason, it was emphasized that Murat Ongun tried to create a different perception in the public by distorting DMM’s statement, and the official minutes revealed that the cash was seized from the safe and from different points of the house.
ZEYNEP ONGUN WAS NOT ARRESTED, BUT HOUSE ARREST WAS IMPOSED
Considering Murat Ongun’s wife Zeynep Ongun’s family unity, the presence of her young child and her personal situation, the judicial control measure of “not leaving the house” was applied instead of arrest. It has been recorded that Murat Ongun’s claim that “I was asked for money to prevent my wife from being arrested” does not reflect the truth, and that this statement was intended to put the judicial authorities under suspicion.
THE PROSECUTOR HE TARGETED IS NOT ON DUTY IN THE FILE
It was revealed that the public prosecutor, whose name Murat Ongun coded in his defense, did not take any part in the IMM investigation, did not work in the office where the file was located, did not have access to the investigation file and worked in the terrorism bureau.

BREAKING NEWS I President Erdoğan: There is no genocide in our history
“WE ARE PREPARING FOR EVERY KIND OF SCENARIO”
Drawing attention to the work carried out in the field of defense industry and emphasizing that they do not remain idle in this field, President Erdoğan said, “We are preparing ourselves against all kinds of scenarios in the current world order, where the mentality of ‘let the survivors survive’ prevails. We are currently the 11th largest country in the world in defense exports.” he said.
Stating that the brightest days of history have been experienced in military shipbuilding, as in other fields, Erdoğan stated that more than 140 naval platforms have been exported to all over the world to date, and more than 50 warships are currently manufactured in Turkish shipyards.
Pointing out that the level of pride that Turkish maritime has reached was witnessed once again on June 20, President Erdoğan said, “At the ceremony we held in Istanbul, we delivered the CAm. Roman corvette, which we developed with our own capabilities, to the Romanian Naval Forces. At the same ceremony, our Koçhisar Offshore Patrol Ship was included in the inventory of our navy. Thus, for the first time in our history, we exported a warship to a NATO and European Union member country. I wish you good luck.” he said.
Reminding that they hosted Polish President Karol Nawrocki at the Presidential Complex on June 23, Erdogan said that they discussed many issues with Nawrocki, including cooperation in the field of defense industry.
Reminding that the previously determined trade volume target of 10 billion dollars with Poland was achieved and the new target was set as 15 billion dollars, President Erdoğan said, “Our contracting companies have undertaken projects worth 9 billion dollars in Poland. I believe that this figure will hopefully increase further. We also discussed the Russia-Ukraine war and the Iran crisis with Mr. President. We pointed out that both problems should end with a just peace.” he said.
“THERE IS ONLY JUSTICE AND MERCY IN OUR THOUSANDS OF YEARS OF GLORIOUS HISTORY”
President Erdoğan said that they attach importance to the support of Poland, one of the countries that recognizes Palestine, for the two-state solution and that they expect it to continue to grow stronger and continued as follows:
“I also think it would be beneficial for you to know that we are members of a nation that is great with its history and great with its conscience. For centuries, we have held the hands of those who have fallen and come to the aid of those who are in trouble. We have opened our doors to those who took refuge in our country.
We do not take into account the slanders about our country by the murder network, which has the blood of 73 thousand innocent Gazans, mostly children and women, on their hands. There is no genocide, massacre, oppression or colonialism in our history. In our thousands of years of glorious history, there is only justice and mercy. There is a helping hand to all the oppressed, regardless of their religion, origin or identity. It has the virtue of supporting those fleeing the Inquisition and Nazi persecution. ‘I give my throne, I give my crown, but I will not give those who take refuge in my state.’ Our heroic ancestors have a dignified stance. “Those who slander Türkiye and the Turkish nation to cover up their barbarism in Gaza will know this best if they look at their history.”
“WE SPEAK THE SAME LANGUAGE WITH OUR PEOPLE, COMMUNICATE WITH THE SAME LANGUAGE OF THE HEART, LOOK AT THE SAME HORIZON”
Emphasizing that they are a team that does politics around the common values of the nation, not in areas of conflict, tension and fight, Erdoğan said, “We speak the same language with our people, communicate with the same language of the heart, and look at the same horizon. I would like to express this clearly once again, our origins, sect, disposition and lifestyle may be different, but as 86 million of us, we are all citizens of the same state, members of the same nation, children of the same homeland, we are all the same.” “We are the patterns of the rug. I always say that no matter what our name is, our surname is the Republic of Türkiye.” he said.
President Erdoğan underlined that they did not discriminate between any human being from the other since the first day they took over the responsibility of governing Türkiye, and said, “We especially took care of our Alevi lives very closely and sincerely. We implemented reforms that had never been taken before in the history of the Republic, nor had they even come to the agenda.” he said.
Stating that they have paved the way for everyone to express their own identity, to live their own culture, their own lifestyle and their own faith freely, President Erdoğan pointed out that they have met a very important need in an institutional sense with the Alevi-Bektashi Culture and Cemevi Presidency, which was established in 2022.
“POLITICS IS DONE TO PROVIDE SOLUTIONS TO THE NATION’S PROBLEMS”
Stating that the Presidency covered the lighting expenses of 1134 cemevis across the country, and that they provided 800 million lira support for the maintenance and repair operations and furnishing purchases of 695 cemevis in the last 3 years, Erdoğan said:
“We processed the requests of 311 cemevi in the first quarter of 2026. We will provide maintenance, repair and furnishing services to 500 cemevi by the end of the year. We have met all the needs of 113 cemevi in our earthquake zone. We will soon complete the restoration and construction works of 13 demolished or heavily damaged cemevi. I have to underline here that politics is both about finding solutions to the nation’s problems and uniting the nation. It is done to integrate and increase the commons. Politics cannot be done by pitting people against each other, dividing our people, and seeking exploitation to score goals against their rivals in the power struggle within the party.
It is extremely wrong that the conflict within the main opposition party is gradually evolving from a reasonable ground to a logic of ‘fists do not count in a fight’. It is a much bigger mistake that our Alevi lives are wanted to be used in this. The best thing that the main opposition party, which is the architect of the pain experienced in the past, can do for the country on this issue is to come to terms with their bad record, if they really have the courage. No one should do politics based on the sensitivity of our Alevi citizens. Especially, one should not resort to abuse. The politics of discord has only harmed this country in the past. The policy of polarization has caused great pain to this nation. With God’s permission, we will not allow these to happen again. We will not allow the thousand-year-old brotherhood to be damaged, injured or weakened. “We neither encourage nor allow such a policy.”
President Erdoğan expressed his gratitude to the Alevi citizens who came together last week in the “Mah-ı Muharrem Fast Breaking Bite” program, shared the same conversation table and said amen to the same prayer, and said, “I pray that the fasts and prayers made in the month of Muharrem, which our Prophet described as the month of Allah, will be accepted. I pray for our Prophet Hüseyin, the ‘sayyid of the youth of heaven’ and “I remember once again with mercy and respect the 72 companions on the 1387th anniversary of their martyrdom. May God preserve our unity, solidarity and eternal brotherhood.” he said.
“THE YOUNG PEOPLE WHO WILL BUILD Türkiye’S FUTURE”
Reminding that 13 thousand 610 students who graduated from the Police Academy attended the graduation ceremony on June 25, Erdoğan noted that they shared the joy of diplomas of the young people who will build Türkiye’s future at the graduation ceremony of Marmara Anatolian Imam Hatip High School on June 26, the last day of the 2025-2026 academic year.
Wishing all students who are happy to have a summer holiday to have a productive, peaceful and enjoyable holiday, Erdoğan thanked the teachers for their efforts.
“WARS AFFECT TRADE NEGATIVELY”
Reminding that they attended the 33rd Ordinary General Assembly of the Turkish Exporters Assembly and the Export Champions Award Ceremony, Erdoğan emphasized that Türkiye’s success graph continues to rise in a period when war, crisis and conflicts negatively affect global trade.
Stating that Türkiye broke the record in the history of the Republic by exporting goods and services worth 395.9 billion dollars in 2025, Erdoğan underlined that they will carry this momentum in exports to higher levels in solidarity with the private sector.
Stating that they continue to offer new opportunities to exporters, especially access to financing, Erdoğan said, “We increased the daily limit of rediscount loans, which we previously increased to 4.5 billion liras, to 5 billion liras with an additional 500 million liras. I wish good luck to all our exporters and convey my congratulations to all our companies that deliver our products to all over the world.” he said.
Reminding that the Turkish Statistical Institute announced the labor force statistics for May, Erdoğan pointed out that the unemployment rate remained at the same level as the previous month, at 8.2 percent in May.
Stating that the unemployment rate decreased by 0.2 points compared to the same month of the previous year, and this rate reached 0.7 points among young people, Erdoğan said, “The number of employed people increased by 285 thousand people compared to the previous month, reaching 32 million 463 thousand people. We find it valuable that the unemployment rate has been in single digits for 37 months, at a time when the world is experiencing a storm of crisis.” he said.
“IT CONFIRMED THE STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE OF OUR PRODUCTIVE HEALTH MODEL”
President Erdoğan stated that they received two good news in the field of health and local administrations last week.
Stating that the first clinical surgery was successfully performed using the heart-lung machine, which was developed entirely with local and national resources in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and ASELSAN, Erdoğan said, “The use of this device, which only 3 countries in the world can produce, also confirmed the strategic importance of our productive health model.” he said.
Stating that another proud news came from Tangier, Morocco, Erdoğan continued as follows:
“Our Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, Uğur İbrahim Altay, was elected as the President of the World Union of Municipalities, where more than 240 thousand local governments are represented. I believe that this success, which comes as a result of 7 years of intense diplomacy, will further increase Türkiye’s international visibility. While the opposition municipalities come to the fore with money towers, baklava boxes, and bribe deals worth millions of euros, it is also admirable that our municipalities come to the fore with international successes, and is a very important indicator that reveals the difference in mentality and vision. Both “I congratulate those who contributed to the success and wish it to be beneficial for our country and nation.”
“WE ARE MAKING PLANNING TO MEET HUMAN NEEDS”
Referring to the earthquakes in Venezuela, President Erdoğan said, “As Türkiye, we support the friendly Venezuelan people, who were shaken by two consecutive major earthquakes, with all our means.” he said.
President Erdoğan said:
“Under the coordination of AFAD, in cooperation with our Ministry of National Defense, we quickly dispatched our 2 military transport planes to the disaster area. A total of 75 of our personnel, 5 search and rescue vehicles, and 6 search and rescue dogs reached Venezuela and started their work. In contact with international coordination mechanisms, we both contribute to search and rescue efforts and make the necessary plans to meet the priority humanitarian needs in the region. We are pleased to observe that our municipalities are organizing various aid campaigns for the friendly Venezuelan people. Once again, we wish the government and people of Venezuela to get well soon, “I want to reiterate that the Turkish nation is and will be with them.”
Erdoğan wished that the Cabinet Meeting would be beneficial.
