Addressing members of parliament following an iftar gathering at the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (TBMM) on March 13, Erdoğan said, “For 40 years, terrorism has shackled Türkiye, costing the lives of tens of thousands of our citizens. Our objective is to eliminate this affliction permanently and decisively.”
He referenced the reading of imprisoned PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s statement which called on the terror group to lay down its arms on Feb. 27 as a key moment in the ongoing efforts to elimate terrorism in the country.
“With the support of our parliamentary political parties, we have made significant strides in our efforts toward a ‘terror-free Türkiye.’ As of Feb. 27, we have crossed another critical threshold in this intiative. I firmly believe that we will reach the expected outcome swiftly, without any unnecessary delays or obstructionist tactics.”
Erdoğan underscored the essential role of opposition in a democratic system, describing constructive criticism as a fundamental component that complements governance. “Throughout every phase of our political life, we have operated with this mindset,” he stated.
“Without being overly consumed by heated political debates, we prioritize finding common ground. We seek more engagement, particularly on foreign policy, security, economic issues and the expansion of democratic political space.”

Point of common pain in the common hope: the President of the Parliament Numan Kurtulmuş, “Half a century to get rid of the malady of terrorism in the beginning of a historical turning point to get rid of all of us. This meeting is also the beginning of the hope of the future of the nation.
The process is not a matter of our saint nation, not any person, institution or political structure. This process is a matter of survival that concerns the common future of both Turks, Kurds and citizens from all walks of life. Every step we take should be aimed at fortification in this ancient geography. In this context, Türkiye without terrorism actually means a region without terrorism. It should be known that the process of release of arms we have witnessed is never the result of a bargaining. It is the result of our nation’s determination to peace and unity and is a reflection of it. The functions of the commission should be transparency, openness and pluralism. Because these lands are meaningful not in one color, but with very sound, very culture. The Turkish-Kurdish brotherhood is the essential code of our geography. Common pain, common hope, we are at a point that will shape the future, “he said.
Its name has been announced
The name of the commission formed for the Turkish process without terrorism became the National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission.
