Target Energy Fully Independent Türkiye

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke at the 11th Energy Efficiency Forum and Fair organized by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources at the Istanbul Congress Center:

We live in an age where energy and energy supply security become one of the most strategic issues of humanity. The energy needs of the world are increasing from year to year. As a humanity in terms of energy supply, demand and security, a future full of tests is waiting for us. Energy has been the subject of a destructive competition, not cooperation for many years in the history of humanity. Especially for the 19th and 20th centuries, many lives for the sake of energy, many countries were exploited, and for centuries, the memories have been engraved as periods that have caused deep wounds in the minds. The deceased Raif Karadağ’s book “Oil Storm” is an important bedside work that sheds light on this period. The imperialist mentality, which adopts the understanding that “a drop of oil is more valuable than a drop of blood”, has dragged the influence of humanity to the pain, destruction and tragedies.

While millions of people living on rich underground sources struggled with a deep poverty, countries of thousands of kilometers away from these sources have grown up, enriched, presented a prosperous life to their citizens. The prosperity and development scissors caused by this has not yet been closed despite all the time. When you look at the satellite photos showing different continents, we can see the gap between the north and the south very clearly. On the one hand there are luminous points almost everywhere in the map, while a dark dark judge on the other; It is almost impossible to find a bright spot. Unless the paradigm for energy does not change, it is unfortunately difficult for this painting to have a more fair, more balanced structure.

Our consumption of natural gas, which was 17.4 billion m3 in 2002, increased to 53.2 billion m3 in 2024. The estimation for the year 2025 is 59.5 billion m3. Only in the first eight months of this year, we paid 26 billion dollars for energy imports. We are in great effort to reduce this invoice. We realized the largest natural gas discovery in the history of the Republic of Türkiye in the Black Sea five years ago with a total of 765 billion m3. We brought the natural gas extracted from the Sakarya gas field to the service of the nation by carrying it to Filyos gas processing facility in less than three years. We are currently meeting the needs of four million households. This figure will increase to 8 million households in 2026 and 16 million households in 2028. In oil, our daily consumption is around 1 million barrels; We obtain approximately 160 thousand barrels of this from our own resources. Although we make a serious breakthrough with our Black Sea gas and our oil discoveries in Gabar, there is a distance that we still have to go before us. We expanded our fleet to close this distance as soon as possible; We accelerated seismic search and drilling activities. We are currently fifth in the world with four active drilling and two seismic search vessels. We will rise to the fourth place with the entry into the inventory of our new ships. As in all other areas, we will run without stopping and resting until we reach our “fully independent Türkiye” target in energy.

We will give the first electricity in Akkuyu in a short time

I hope we will give the first electricity in Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant in a very short time. Apart from Akkuyu, we also have other nuclear power plant projects. Our negotiations continue. We discussed this issue with our interlocutors both on our journey to China and in the last American trip. The strategic civilian nuclear cooperation of the United States is an agreement based on cooperation in peaceful nuclear energy. This agreement envisions the development of new generation technologies such as advanced reactor technologies and small modular reactors. Nuclear energy is not only for electricity generation; We will also use in different fields such as medical research and industrial heat. In other words, as a government, we are trying to fortify our energy supply security in the next twenty -other year with a long -term understanding, without neglecting any field. These are the moves that need to be applauded under normal conditions. No one who thinks about the goodness of Türkiye will be disturbed by these steps.

We became the fastest increase in energy efficiency

We are the interlocutors of the order not to waste water even when taking ablution from the creek. Prevention of energy efficiency and waste is a directly connected issue for us as well as our strategic values of civilization. Energy efficiency is the cleanest and cheapest energy source. In addition, energy efficiency is one of the building blocks of our 2053 net zero emission vision. Energy efficiency, beyond savings; We see it as an element that increases our competitiveness in the industry and strengthens our hands in the fight against the climate crisis. With this understanding, as the government, we have been carrying out comprehensive projects to increase energy efficiency since 2002. Thanks to these, we improved the energy density by 32 percent; We reduced the amount of energy consumed per product and service by one -third. The world improves the energy density by an average of 1 percent annually, while Türkiye recorded 4.5 percent improvement. Thus, we became one of the fastest increasing countries of energy efficiency. In 2024, 700 million pounds of energy efficiency investments in industry were obtained. With the replacement of 4 million inefficient electric motors used in the industry, 15 billion pounds of savings were achieved annually. In the agricultural sector, 30-40 percent savings were obtained with drop and pressure irrigation systems.

Our priority is environment and human

We have implemented applications that encourage energy efficiency in houses. Last year we imported $ 65 billion energy. With energy efficiency studies, we can earn 5 billion dollars a year. On the one hand, while supporting wind, geothermal and solar energy investments; On the other hand, we focus on projects that prioritize savings. Even the gas coming out of the garbage into electrical energy, we present it to the use of houses and industry. Our priority is to protect the environment and human health.

Europe suffered, we were very comfortable

On the one hand, while revealing our own resources, on the other hand, we try to guarantee our energy supply security depending on the increasing demand. Taking natural gas from international markets is not like a soda from the grocery store. You will determine your needs, you will make your planning, you will find reliable suppliers, and after the negotiations, you will agree with the best prices for your country in the most favorable conditions for your country. At the point of supply, it has serious risks to be connected to a single country, a single source and a single line. In the first months of the Russian -Ukraine War, our European friends personally experienced the problem of this. With the contribution of Türkakım, we became one of the most comfortable countries.

We increased the natural gas access to 85 percent

The increase in energy demand indicates not only population growth and economic growth, but also the increase in welfare. In parallel with the increase in welfare, the area of use of energy, especially electricity, is becoming widespread. Equipped with comfort, electric products have now become an indispensable part of our lives and have increasingly expanded. For example, last year, white goods sales in our country increased by 7 percent compared to the previous year and exceeded 10 million. The same applies to electric cars. As in all over the world, the number of electric and hybrid vehicles in our country is rising asymmetrically. For example, approximately 134 thousand electric cars were sold in the January -September period of this year. A life without electricity is no longer possible even in cities, but also in the most remote villages and towns. We are faced with a similar table in the use of natural gas. See; In 2002, the number of cities with natural gas infrastructure in our country was only five. We have delivered natural gas to all of our 81 provinces. While 33 percent of our population could reach natural gas 23 years ago, we increased this rate to 85 percent today and this number is increasing.

The only one of the opponent’s bribe to be a bribe

We are subjected to unfair criticism of our country’s main opposition party due to our energy policies. One day at the head of the main opposition comes out, supposedly criticizing our nuclear power plant projects by “Fish excuse”; The next day comes out, targeting hydroelectric power plants with the jargon of marginal organizations. Someone else comes out, and the natural gas signed with American companies is full of supply contracts. In a sentence, a lot of lies and mistakes are trying to discredit our energy policies by lining the mistakes. It has neither an idea nor an energy vision, except for criticizing, attacking, diluting, disdain our projects with unspoiled claims. All he can do is to be a living shield to corruption, bribery and scandals that break out a new one every day in his party. What should we say; With remote control, only so much politics is done.

Mayor Erdoğan Greeted the 11th Energy Effeciency Forum and Fair with Demirören Holding Chairman Yıldırım Demirören and Demirören Holding Vice Chairman Meltem Demirören.

We are in economic dynamism

As Türkiye, we have been in serious economic dynamism since 2002. Our economy grew by 5.4 percent annually in 2003-2024 period. We increased our national income per capita from 3 thousand 600 dollars to 15 thousand 325 dollars in the same period. In the national income we have taken over from $ 238 billion, we entered the economic league of a trillion for the first time in 2023. With the medium -term program, we set targets for the next three years: In 2028, we envision to increase our economy to a $ 1.9 trillion dollars and our national income per capita to 21 thousand dollars. Our exports to $ 300 billion; We aim to carry our tourism revenues over 70 billion dollars. We expect our population to exceed 94 million in 2050.

Trump continued his words as follows: Let me add this, Türkiye bought these planes, they are the best planes. If you are purchasing an aircraft from the United States, if anything is done to the engines and their maintenance is also carried out; Of course, if you bought this plane from America, it is our responsibility to maintain it. I mean, is the engine running, will the engine be rehabilitated, will it be upgraded… Many people disagreed, but over time they began to understand that Türkiye was a great ally for us.
