Ahmet Türk spoke clearly about the solution process: There is a strong will for a terror-free Türkiye
Ahmet Türk from DEM: The solution process is progressing because President Erdoğan supports it. There is a state and government working in harmony
Noting that the National Solidarity, Fraternity and Democracy Commission is not like the past and is progressing differently, DEM party member Ahmet Türk said that he saw how sincerely he wanted peace in his first meetings with Abdullah Öcalan. “The process we are in is a project of meeting the people of our society with common democratic values,” said Türk, adding that a legal basis must be provided for this. Ahmet Türk, who made important statements to Tuba Kalçık, said, “There is a nationalist group, we see that they are disturbed by the process evolving into peace, we can easily notice this from the actors they put on television programs.” Türk said that the main opposition party, which calls itself a social-democrat, should play an active role in ensuring social peace. “Özgür Özel stands in a better place compared to his base, Babacan displays a democratic attitude on this issue, Davutoğlu displays a pioneering will towards a solution,” said Türk, adding that there are also those who criticize the process, but this process should be supported.

● “They are not aware of what is happening”
“This project should not be seen only as the disarmament of the PKK, it should be seen as a major project that will pave the way for the democratization of the Middle East beyond a Turkish-Kurdish brotherhood,” said Turk, adding that a Türkiye that has solved the Kurdish problem will make a great contribution to the democratization of the Middle East. “We need to look at the solution process as a big picture, no matter what your opinion is, but it is necessary to contribute to the solution process,” said Türk, adding that there is an apolitical section in Türkiye and they still say there are no Kurds. “They are not aware of what is happening, we need to explain the process to this segment as well,” said Turk, adding that it is necessary to explain well that this process is not just about the Kurds but a Middle East process.
● “Erdogan has an important responsibility”
Türk said that the Kurdish issue is a hundred-year-old problem, such a problem can be solved by a leader who has control over all institutions of the state, and added that Mr. Erdoğan has dominance in this sense. I also served as a deputy in CHP for two terms. It is not right to evaluate CHP as a whole. We have friends and colleagues who support the process for the party. But there are also people who think that once the process is successful, we will be engaged somewhere. This is a mistake. There are those who do not want the process to succeed. Özgür Özel is someone who wants the process to be successful. I find Özgür Özel’s attitude constructive.

● “Türkiye has entered a very important process”
Türk said, “For years, we have always made efforts to strengthen democratic politics and grow democratic politics instead of weapons. We lived through September 12 and the 90s. I have said for years that ‘we are the last generation that we can talk to, if this disappears from our generation, you will not find anyone who can talk to us.’ We have strived to ensure social peace for years, and we have never lost our faith in it. Our hope for brotherhood and peace has kept us alive. Because when there is faith, you are involved in all kinds of efforts, you feed, “You make sacrifices and magnify them. Those who do not know the past and what happened can neither make this sacrifice nor transfer the past accurately to the present. We had met with the President of the MİT and our Minister of Internal Affairs during the previous solution process, but it did not reach a conclusion,” he said.
FETO SABOTATED
● I think that FETO had an impact on the failure of the previous solution process. The Gülen community had infiltrated many levels of the state at that time. This was clearly revealed in the KCK Case. It turned out that most of the judges and prosecutors handling the cases came from Gülen community groups. The government was not ready at that time. Now the process is not like in the past. It progresses differently. In fact, in our first meeting with Öcalan, we saw how sincerely he wanted peace.

LET’S FORGIVE ANGER
● The pain of both the mother in Trabzon and the mother in Şırnak breaks our hearts. Every dying person is a great loss. A problem in which more than 40 thousand people lost their lives needs to be looked at from both sides. Everyone who dies is our loss. It is necessary to understand the pain of people who lost their children or brothers. We need to look at the issue in a balanced way. Blood and tears have not been spilled on any inch of Türkiye’s land for half a century. But please, let’s all donate our resentment and anger to peace.
DEVLET BEY IS ADOPTED
● Devlet Bahçeli has a determined attitude towards the process. Mr. Devlet is a leader I respect very much. A person who stands tall and owns the process. This stance is a state’s wisdom. When we went to Suleymaniye, he called and thanked us. I first met him at the airport after he was released from prison. I couldn’t go to visit him, but I called him to thank him. We are from the same school as him. I want to visit Mr. Statesman soon.

ERDOĞAN IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE LEADER AFTER MUSTAFA KEMAL
● Ahmet Türk said, “The process is progressing because the President supports this process. He calculates everything, even takes into account the possible criticism. At the beginning of the process, he did not share his thoughts about this committee with the public, but recently he clearly stated that he will support the process until the end.”
● “Until now, except for Mustafa Kemal, it has been Mr. Erdoğan who has the effective power in all institutions of the state,” said Türk, adding that there used to be focuses within the state that thought very differently, but now there is a strong tendency within the state that thinks that a solution is essential due to both internal reasons and external factors. Saying “There is a strong political consensus,” Türk said that Mr. Erdoğan, who is the head of the executive power, has an important duty here.
● Turk said, “Our President met with the DEM delegation. I would like to talk to him especially about Syria. There is a big Middle East project in the region. This is a project in favor of Türkiye. Instead of the intervention of other countries, Turks and Kurds should come together and decide what can be done. Turkey should also meet with the Kurds there. Ahmet Shara should be met, but in my opinion, the Kurds there should also be met and their opinions should be taken.”

WISE PEOPLE WERE LYNCHED…
● Unfortunately, there are always those who benefit from war. This situation is not only in Türkiye. For example, arms dealers feed off the war in America. We need to look at the solution process as a big picture. Whatever your opinion, it is necessary to contribute to the solution process. There is an apolitical group in Türkiye, they still say there are no Kurds. They don’t realize what’s happening. It is necessary to explain well that this process is not just a process about the Kurds, but a Middle East process.
EMOTIONAL MOMENTS ARE EXPERIENCED
● I experienced an emotional moment at the PKK’s weapons burning ceremony. It was a very important moment for me that Öcalan revealed at the beginning of this process that everyone should embrace this. I experienced an emotional moment at the PKK’s weapons burning ceremony. We were the ones who demanded the laying down of arms. We thought that armed struggle should now give way to democratic politics. What pleased and excited me the most was the enthusiastic reception of the delegations from here. There were emotional moments.

WE WILL NEVER FORGET THE SECRET
● We lost Sırrı Süreyya Önder recently. It’s a big loss for us. We will never forget your services and efforts. Today, everyone knows that he was a person whose secret was solely based on the peace and democratic future of this country. It was very valuable to us, it was very valuable to the people of Türkiye. There were people from many parts of Türkiye at his funeral. Even when we look at this, it becomes clear that Sırrı is a peaceful actor.
MY HEALTH IS GETTING BETTER
● How is our health? Your cancer treatment continues, right?
Yes, my treatment is going well, thank God. They started immunotherapy, they give serum every 21 days.

“MAINTAINING STABILITY IS CRITICALLY IMPORTANT”

Developments in the Strait of Hormuz pose multi-dimensional risks, from energy supply security to supply chains, from fertilizer markets to global food security. In this context, re-establishing maritime navigation security on the basis of international law is critical for maintaining regional stability.
We welcome the announcement by Iran during the meeting hours that the Strait of Hormuz has been reopened to all ships until the end of the ceasefire period, as an important step towards reducing tensions. Avoiding similar crises, conflicts and developments that would disrupt maritime transportation in our region is only possible by strengthening dialogue, moderation and multilateral cooperation. “As Türkiye, we will continue to make all diplomatic efforts for a lasting peace.”
