First Lady Erdoğan’s call to families to “Encourage your children to Turkish literature”
First Lady Erdoğan attended the opening of the Rami Children and Art Biennial, held at the Rami Library and hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism under the auspices of the Ministry of Family and Social Services.
Speaking here, First Lady Erdoğan thanked the Ministry of Family and Social Services, its stakeholders and those who contributed for organizing the biennial held in a historical place such as Rami Library.
First Lady Erdoğan stated that what expands the horizons of a society is the ability to dream together, and said that imagination means the power of civilization.
Stating that planes flying in the sky, the internet connecting the world and travels to the depths of space were possible when a dream seed sprouted, Erdoğan said, “In other words, before the airplane, there was the dream of flying, before the internet, of invisible networks, before the space shuttles, there was a dream of going out of the atmosphere.” He said his words.
Erdoğan said that when we look at the discoveries that have shaped human history, what should amaze people is a person’s capacity to imagine them.
Pointing out that the ability to imagine is acquired in childhood, Erdoğan said, “A child’s mind is like a garden where wonderful crops of imagination grow. That is why our duty is to enrich the soil of this garden. Because we know that where there is no dream, a repetition begins that ends in extinction.” he said.
“WE SHOULD INTRODUCE CHILDREN TO BOOKS THAT HAVE LITERARY VALUE”
Stating that new possibilities, worlds and realities emerge with the nourishment of imagination, Erdoğan said, “Therefore, we must introduce children to quality books that have literary value, that will activate their potential and make them make mental leaps. Because literature is a window through which we watch life. Children form their first impressions of life through the books they read. A book with a high literary quality not only entertains the child, but also prepares him for life. By reading, the child learns to use his native language competently. Noting that children travel to unknown geographies with these book heroes, pass through magical forests where trees and birds speak, and go on adventure after adventure, Erdoğan said, “Today, unfortunately, many of our children embark on these adventures with translated books. As a result, they are coded with another culture’s view of humanity, lifestyle and values. As a mother, a grandmother and a great-grandmother, I am of the opinion that children’s books should be the products of our own cultural world.” he said.
Erdoğan continued his speech with the following words:
“It is a fact that a mill does not turn with water. We have our own heroes, each of whom is a universal symbol. But we cannot see them enough in the pages of books, cartoons, computer games or the digital world. From Katip Çelebi to Piri Reis, from Mevlana to Itri, many unique figures who have left behind great human legacies are waiting to appear on the world stage again with a modern narrative. Our children are not with a translated character speaking a sloppy Turkish, but with Dede.” “They should be able to establish a bond with Korkut. They should be able to learn wisdom from Nasreddin Hodja’s practical intelligence and wit. They should learn justice from Battal Gazi, wisdom from Mevlana, and discovery from Evliya Çelebi. Wishing that the number of these local works will increase many times over, Erdoğan said, “Because all those tales, epics, stories are the memory of the dreams and dreams that have been established in this geography for centuries. But at this point, we also have important duties. Our families, in particular, should definitely encourage their children to Turkish literature. They should entrust their children to heroes they can trust. Because unfortunately, globalization has the side effect of melting cultures in a single pot. Erdoğan stated that people carry their childhood, both the bitter and the sweet, within them throughout their lives, and criticized the way today’s children look at the world through screens.
“WE CAN PROTECT CHILDREN AGAINST DIGITAL INVASION BY GIVING PICTURE BOOKS INSTEAD OF SCREENS”
Erdoğan said that screen time, which reaches up to 8 hours a day, and sometimes even exceeds 8 hours, causes great harm to children beyond expectations, causes developmental delays, and negatively affects the development of motor skills. He explained that children in this situation have limited vocabularies, weak meanings, and suffer from chronic diseases such as obesity and diabetes.
Stating that screen addicted children are victims of behavioral addictions such as computer games and social media, Erdoğan said, “Of course, they also face all kinds of risks such as cyber bullying, violent content, hate speech, perverted ideologies and online abuse. Do you know, this extremely complex problem begins with a step that seems very innocent. The phone that is handed to the child’s hand to keep him busy or behave, creates unbreakable bonds between him and the screens. However, instead of screens, picture books are given to children.” “If we do, we can very well protect the homeland called childhood against this digital invasion. We can build a rich world of meaning for them through books.” he said.
Underlining that children can be taught the habit of reading by example, not by recommending it, Erdoğan said, “Children who see their parents and older brothers and sisters involved with books inevitably develop a similar tendency. In fact, I think that doing reading time activities within the family is very effective in both strengthening the communication between family members and adding meaning to time and life.” he said.

“Thankfully, today, in our country, we have libraries with beautiful and rich collections, such as the National Library and the Rami Library we are in. It is in our hands to go to libraries as a family, to teach children library etiquette, and to gift memories full of the smell of the book and the feeling of touching the pages. Please, let’s make this effort. Let’s not deprive our children of the magical world of books. Let’s not forget that not only scientific discoveries can come from the seeds of dreams. Wars are over, justice is shared by everyone, universal values are valid for everyone. “A world full of peace can be built by those who can imagine it. So, let’s introduce children to stories and heroes from us, full of virtues, from which they can dream pure dreams.”
Inviting all families to visit the biennial, Erdoğan ended his speech by thanking those who contributed to the organization.
“CHILDREN’S BOOK IS THE EARLIEST CONTACT THAT ART HAS MADE WITH THE CHILD”
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş said that books are one of the most elegant ways for a child to know the world, and that children make meaning by seeing and feeling words before they fully learn them.
Stating that a quality book given to a child carries elegance, attention, curiosity and aesthetic sensitivity to his inner world, Minister Göktaş said, “For this reason, the children’s book is one of the earliest and strongest contacts that art establishes with the child. The Children and Art Biennial that we are opening today makes the value of this contact visible.” he said.
Minister Göktaş explained that at the center of children’s policies is the understanding that every child can grow up safely, express themselves, discover their talents and prepare for life with confident steps, and said, “With this belief, under the leadership of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, we are advancing a social service approach in which our children are protected and our family structure is strengthened. We are strengthening our protective and preventive services so that our children grow up with family and love.” he said.
Stating that they see children’s access to qualified content appropriate to their age and development level as a priority issue, Minister Göktaş said, “This week, we implemented an important regulation in the Parliament regarding social media for people under the age of 15. Undoubtedly, this regulation we have implemented to offer a safe digital world to our children is an important step.” he said.

Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, who attended the ceremony with his wife Pervin Ersoy, stated in his speech that the biennial is not just an art event and said, “It is also designed as a field of imagination, a learning journey and a ground where our children reinterpret the world. This important organization, which sets out with the slogan ‘If it is Colorful, It is Real’, transforms the two-dimensional world of illustrated children’s books into a three-dimensional experience, turning the book into a living one.” he said.
Minister Ersoy noted that a rich program awaits the participants in the biennial and said, “With over 300 workshops, panels and events, this organization makes not only children but also families an active part of cultural events. This biennial will also have messages on many topics. We aim to ensure that the awareness activities and education projects carried out in cooperation with the Green Crescent will contribute to the growth of our children as healthy and conscious individuals.” he said.
Melike Günyüz, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Very Young Association, also made a speech at the ceremony.
After the speeches, Minister Göktaş presented a work of diorama art to First Lady Erdoğan in memory of the day.
The ceremony, which started with the short film screening “Rami Child and Art Biennial Begins”, ended with a family photo shoot and ribbon cutting.
After the ceremony, First Lady Erdoğan visited the experience, workshop and fairy tale areas on the Rami Library campus.

Among the different and thematic installation, interactive exhibition and digital experience areas at the biennial, there is an experience area with the theme “Transforming Life is in Our Hands”, which was implemented in cooperation with the Zero Waste Foundation.
In this area, where zero waste awareness meets art, the message that waste is not an end but the beginning of a transformation, and that organic waste, which is seen as having lost its function in daily life, mixes with the soil and turns into a part of a new life, is told in a different way.
During the Rami Children and Art Biennial, unique areas such as the “Shining Tales” exhibition, award-winning illustration selections, “The Adventure of the Book” experience area, silent book exhibition, and Dede Korkut board games will be open to all children and art lovers at the Rami Library until June 15.

AK Party Eskişehir Provincial Minister Gürhan Albayrak: We will not let Eskişehir residents lose their rights! Public receivables of 550 thousand liras must be accounted for
AK Party Eskişehir Provincial Chairman Gürhan Albayrak made remarkable statements about the three political programs held at the Atatürk Culture Art and Congress Center (AKM) belonging to Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality, during the term of former CHP Eskişehir Provincial Chairman Talat Yalaz. He stated that there are discussions between different political groups in the country on many issues, from how the process will work to the routes to be used, whether Hashd al-Shaabi elements will play a role in security or not, to the sharing of the financial share and revenue that will arise.
Can Acun said, “This signature issue in Türkiye should be evaluated in this context. HOW DOES IRAN APPROACH THE PROJECT?
While many evaluations were made on social media about its closeness to Iran after Iraqi Minister of Transport Veheb Salman Muhammed resisted signing, Can Acun touched on Tehran’s approach. The new curriculum, digitalization steps and the rise in international student success research that the Ministry of National Education has implemented in education in recent years are reflected in the reports of international organizations and attract the attention of education circles. Türkiye’s rising graph, revealed by the new curriculum within the scope of the Turkey Century Education Model, the steps taken in the field of digitalization, and research such as the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) and the International Mathematics and Science Trends Survey (TIMSS) conducted by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), are among the headlines that attract attention in the international arena. The Turkey Century Education Model, which emerged as the product of a ten-year long-term study by the Ministry and started to be gradually implemented in the 2024-2025 academic year, centers on skill-based learning, values education and the holistic development of students as well as knowledge transfer. In various international meetings and diplomatic contacts between countries, Türkiye’s new curriculum approach is followed by many countries, especially OECD member countries, and evaluations are made that the skill-oriented structure of the model is compatible with global education trends.
At the G20 Education Ministers Meeting held in the Republic of South Africa in November last year, the Ministry of National Education’s breakthroughs and outstanding practices in the field of education were cited as an example to the world by UNICEF. UNICEF Global Education and Adolescent Development Director Pia Britto stated that the “value and skill-based” Türkiye Century Education Model has been appreciated internationally. Pointing out that face-to-face training for teachers to prepare for the new curriculum stands out as exemplary practices, Britto stated that Türkiye is among the countries that successfully implement national standards in early childhood education with its centralized education system. In the news made by an agency from Azerbaijan, it was stated that the Turkish Century Education Model deals with value education, character development and national spiritual identity together with academic development, thus Türkiye has achieved a comprehensive transformation not only in infrastructure but also with an education model that overlaps with its own values.

In her meeting with Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin, Kyrgyzstan Minister of Education Dogdurkul Kendirbaeva stated that they watched Türkiye’s use of artificial intelligence and technology in education with appreciation and said, “We expect Türkiye’s support in the use of technology in the field of education.” he said. Former Head of the European Union Delegation to Türkiye, Ambassador Thomas Ossowski, also stated that they are proud of the successful projects carried out with the Ministry of Education and that Türkiye can be a role model for other countries in many areas, especially digitalization in education. In the “Education at a Glance 2025 Report” published by the OECD and presenting comparative data on education systems, it was emphasized that Türkiye showed a strong increase in education. The report revealed that Türkiye stands out among OECD countries in increasing inclusiveness in education and bringing the young population into education.

Türkiye’s ranking in the latest application of TIMSS, conducted by OECD as well as PISA, attracted the attention of representatives of many countries and institutions. In his meeting with Minister Tekin, OECD Secretary General Mathias Cormann stated that Türkiye is one of the few countries showing a trend in the right direction in the last 10 years of PISA results. OECD Director of Education Andreas Schleicher pointed out that Türkiye’s moves in the field of education show that it can turn things around in crises, and said, “Not because they found a magic wand, but because they built consistent systems, mobilized local resources to make education sustainable, and invested in workforce policies where better skills translate into better jobs and better lives…” UNESCO Deputy Director-General for Education and former Italian Minister of Education Stefania Giannini also emphasized that Turkey is one of the bright examples of countries that come from different perspectives and challenges, produce solutions and make progress.
STUDENTS WERE MONITORED WITH THE MONUMENT RESEARCH IN THE YEARS WHEN PISA AND TIMSS WERE NOT APPLIED
Minister of National Education Tekin made statements about the practices implemented by Türkiye in education and their reflections in the international arena. Reminding that PISA 2025 results will be announced in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, on September 8, Tekin stated that OECD has high expectations from Türkiye. Minister Tekin said, “We want our children to be strong while competing in the international arena, but on the other hand, we do not want them to move away from the values that make us who we are. Therefore, we look at the issue in this way. While talking to the officials of other countries, we share that these should be included in education programs in order for that country’s own future to be embraced by its children, for children to internalize world peace, and for ending human rights violations and wars in the world.” he said.

According to the statement made by the Diyanet, Arpaguş spoke at the Childhood Quran Teaching Workshop themed “Educational Activities for Children in Quran Courses: Evaluation and Future Perspective” organized by the General Directorate of Educational Services.
Stating that early childhood is the most critical phase in which a person’s identity, personality and character are shaped, Arpaguş said, “In this respect, we see Quran courses for ages 4-6 as not only a teaching process in which the skill of reading the Quran is acquired, but also as a strategic education area that aims to protect the child’s nature, support his spiritual and moral development, and contribute to the construction of a solid identity and personality.” made his assessment.
Drawing attention to the importance and sensitivity of childhood, Arpaguş continued as follows:
“We should measure our success in teaching the Quran not by how much students memorize, but by their ability to establish a relationship of love and trust with the Quran that will last a lifetime. What is more important than a child of four or five years old knowing all the letters is that he comes running to the Quran lesson. What is more valuable than memorizing long surahs for a child at that age is that he can learn the love of Allah in a compassion-centered way.
