How Ataşehir Municipality puts pressure on tradesmen has been revealed: If I find a loophole, I will strangle you
The conversation records reflected in the investigation file in the corruption and bribery operation carried out by the Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against the CHP’s Ataşehir Municipality caused a stir. In the phone conversation between Deputy Mayor Oğuz Kaya and Municipal Police Director Mehmet Yılmaz, there were scandalous statements about how they were looking for a loophole to extort bribes from tradesmen. According to the conversation record dated January 19, 2026, Deputy Mayor Oğuz Kaya asks Police Chief Yılmaz to specifically “deal” with a company operating in İçerenköy. Yılmaz, who made an investigation on this, says about the company in the recording, “There is not a gram of leakage, they have always taken the license, the warehouse and the mepo.” After these words, he uses the phrase “This dishonorable person is so perfect.” It was noteworthy that the entire conversation used language that reflected the duo’s surprise and discomfort rather than satisfaction with the existence of a business that fully complies with the legislation.

‘WE WILL SEE YOU’
In the recording, Yılmaz’s words, “If he had too many shoes, I would strangle him. He has no deficit, no occupation, nothing,” and “We found his phone through the license… We’ll see, we’ll see.” These statements showed that the audit process was carried out with an understanding that “must be absolutely clear”. This record strengthened the allegations of “looking for the shortcomings of the tradesmen and putting pressure on them” regarding the municipal practices in Ataşehir.
