Reminding that he will also meet with the leaders of the political parties in the commission, Kurtulmuş continued his words as follows:

“It was a historical threshold for Turkey. The work is not completely finished yet, but the Parliament has fulfilled its responsibility. Unfortunately, the efforts that have been tried many times before to end terrorism could not be brought to the floor of the Parliament for various reasons and could not be brought to a certain point with the common opinion of our parties. For the first time, by progressing on this valuable acquis of the past, a commission was formed in which all but one of the parties in the Turkish Grand National Assembly participated, and extremely valuable hearings were made.”

“BROAD SECTIONS OF THE SOCIETY ARE GREATLY SATISFIED WITH THIS TEXT”

Kurtulmuş emphasized that following the work of the commission, a report and text agreed upon by the parties emerged, and said, “What we see after the publication of the text is this: large segments of society are greatly satisfied with this text.” he said.

Stating that the parties prepare their own reports, Kurtulmuş said that the opinions of the parties are stated in the commission’s report. TBMM Speaker Kurtulmuş made the following evaluations regarding the commission report:

“This text is not the opinion of any political party. It is not the common opinion of 1 or 2 political parties. It was brought to the agenda as a joint effort of all parties in the commission, voted on and, more importantly, was accepted with the votes of 47 out of 50 deputies. We must all continue to work openly, sincerely and transparently in order to ensure that the next process is followed meticulously, that the extraordinarily mature, democratic approach established under the umbrella of the Turkish Grand National Assembly is maintained from now on, and that Türkiye sends this issue to the dusty shelves of history forever.” We hope that the Turkish Grand National Assembly will do its part in preparing the laws in the General Assembly and that they will be matured in a short time.”

Thanking MHP Chairman Bahçeli, Grand National Assembly of Turkey Speaker Kurtulmuş said that Bahçeli also supports and sets an example for other political parties.

MHP Chairman Bahçeli accompanied Kurtulmuş during his statements.

SPEAKER OF THE GNAT, NUMAN KURTULMUŞ, MEETED WITH CHP CHAIRMAN ÖZEL

TBMM Speaker Kurtulmuş, who had a closed-door meeting with CHP Chairman Özgür Özel in his office in the Parliament, reminded the press members after the meeting that he met with the leaders of the political parties after the report of the National Solidarity, Fraternity and Democracy Commission was accepted.

Kurtulmuş also thanked CHP Chairman Özel and CHP deputies who are members of the Commission, and stated that they sincerely supported the process, and stated that an exemplary work in terms of democracy in Türkiye was completed with pride, and that deputies from different political views came together around the same table.

Reminding that as a result of the negotiations, a report agreed upon by all parties emerged, and that the reports prepared by all political parties were included in the annex of the Commission report, Kurtulmuş said:

“A work that will set an example for the world in terms of conflict resolution has been put forward. Without the need for a third eye or the moderation of anyone else, political parties came together with different views in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, in this sacred place that is the manifestation of the national will and the heart of Turkish democracy, and presented the common text. Now, I hope that in a short time, our concrete proposals expressed here, especially in the 6th and 7th sections, will be discussed by the political parties and legislative activities will be started in the General Assembly of our Parliament.”

Kurtulmuş expressed his wish that the spiral of terror and violence would be left behind and that Türkiye would not return to those days again.

“WE WILL FOLLOW THE PROCESS CAREFULLY”

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel also reminded that they wanted the commission to be chaired by the Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly during its establishment process.

During the meeting, Özel said that he thanked Kurtulmuş for his management and leadership of the culture of consensus in the Commission, and reminded that CHP’s attitude was wondered during the commission establishment process.

Reminding that they used the expression “Fear the commission that CHP is, not the commission that it is not”, Özel continued his words as follows:

“‘We are not involved in any business where we cannot be accountable to anyone, where we cannot look at the faces of the families of martyrs and veterans, but the issue is very important historically and must be resolved. Despite all the difficulties we experience politically, from time to time during the process we wonder, ‘I wonder if the CHP will continue in the commission?’ We always answered the same questions. We said, “Apart from everything else, if the process in Türkiye in which the tears of brothers and mothers whose blood is shed by their brothers, the tears of Turks and Kurds, is to be stopped, if peace is to come to Türkiye, and if the biggest contribution of this from now on is to contribute to the future of both the region, Turks and Kurds, and everyone living in Türkiye, with an extraordinary development opportunity, if we can pass on wealth and prosperity to our children and grandchildren, not conflict and fight, everyone must take responsibility to solve this issue.” The commission’s work continued with this approach. The point reached today is a point of compromise. “In the future, we will all follow the process carefully and continue to contribute as much as we can to its completion.”

Özel thanked the Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Kurtulmuş and the members of the commission and made the following evaluations regarding the legal regulation suggestions in the report:

“It is important that articles 6 and 7 of our report be implemented without delay and together. Article 6 is the regulations aimed at solving the problem. Article 7 is democratization steps. As underlined in the report, we are talking about an intertwined process, not one after the other. When this process is successful, Turkey will be freed from the terrorism problem and it is important that respect for judicial decisions, Constitutional Court decisions, the rule of law, the principle of trial without detention, and that the very important democratization steps written in the report have been taken, and these are internal.” “It is important that it be done as soon as possible. This is the essence, the spirit, the assurance that the Parliament gives to each other under the chairmanship of Mr. President. It is very important to follow this assurance. When this process achieves such success, there will be no losers, Türkiye will be the winner. It is our duty to contribute together.”

KURTULMUŞ MET WITH THE DEM DELEGATION

A joint statement was made after the meeting between Parliament Speaker Kurtulmuş and the DEM delegation. In the statement, positive messages were given about the process.

Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Numan Kurtulmuş met with the DEM delegation

Kurtulmuş said, “We will fulfill the historical responsibility. Turkish democracy will win.” Thanking the co-chairs of the DEM Party for their support to the process, Kurtulmuş said, “In the end, the winners of this matter will be Türkiye’s 86 million people. In the end, Turkey will emerge as a strong and leading country in its region.” he said.

“A historical threshold has been opened to solve the most serious issue in the history of our Republic, the issue of weapons, violence and terrorism.” Kurtulmuş said that the Commission prepared the report with the unanimous decision and that the General Assembly of the Turkish Grand National Assembly will also take part in the implementation of the report.

Emphasizing that mutual good will, sincerity and open-heartedness are very important in the work carried out with the goal of “Terrorism-Free Türkiye”, Kurtulmuş said:

“Turkey will now leave this issue behind and will never, ever turn back. We will do our part as a politician at the point where we have come so far and are very close to a solution. What is more valuable than everyone talking in their own echo chamber is that everyone has a common say on Türkiye’s agenda and in general. I think this has been achieved with the report. Of course, this is not the end of everything, but the beginning of the steps to be taken from now on. The Commission has successfully fulfilled this historical responsibility. All political parties that support the Commission in fulfilling this responsibility are grateful.” “He has fulfilled his responsibilities.”

Stating that when the process is completed, the winners of this matter will be Türkiye and 86 million people, Kurtulmuş stated that at the end of the process, Türkiye will emerge as a strong and leading country in its region and democracy will win.

Stating that they will build a Türkiye where 86 million people with different ethnic and sectarian identities are in peace and security, Kurtulmuş said that he hopes that this work, which they put forward as the “Turkey model”, will be shown as an example for conflict resolution all over the world.

DEM Party Co-Chairman Bakırhan stated that they worked well with Parliament Speaker Kurtulmuş, their agenda was a report, and they exchanged views on the steps to be taken in the coming period.

Bakırhan stated that they shared the topics of the report that they did not agree with with the public and said:

“This does not mean that the report is unimportant. On the contrary, the five parties that have a group in the Turkish Grand National Assembly for the first time reach an agreement on various issues. They have common commonalities, we care about this. Now is not the time to talk about the differences in the report. On the contrary, it is on all of us as a historical responsibility to enlarge and multiply these commons, to pave the way for Turkish democracy by expanding these commons, and to solve this century-old issue.”

Referring to the developments in the Middle East, Bakırhan stated that they saw once again how valuable the solution here is in a process where intervention scenarios in Iran are discussed, and therefore this process should not be postponed in Türkiye and legal regulations on this issue should be made as soon as possible.
