Today, 6 defendants, 5 of whom are detained, will appear before the judge for the first time in connection with the deaths of mother Çiğdem Böcek (27), father Servet Böcek (38), 3-year-old Masal and 6-year-old Kadir Muhammet Böcek, who came to Istanbul from Germany for touristic purposes and died as a result of pesticide spraying at the hotel. At the hearing to be held at the Istanbul 30th High Criminal Court, 6 defendants, including the detained defendant Hakan Oğlak, a hotel official, and the suspect Serkan Kışı, the owner of the DSS Pharmaceutical Company, will make their defense.
TRIAL HAS STARTED
The detained defendants, the lawyers of the parties and the complainant family attended the hearing. Unarrested defendant Rustemha Batyrov was connected to the hearing via Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS). First, the detained defendant Hakan Oğlak, the hotel owner, began to make his defense.
RECEPTION ATTENDANT WAS RELEASED
After my defense of the detained defendants, the court announced its interim decision and decided to release the hotel’s receptionist, Muhammad Moeen Ud Din Chishti. The committee ruled that the other defendants should continue to be detained and sent the file for consideration.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The incident took place on November 12 at a hotel in Fatih. The couple Servet and Çiğdem Böcek, who came to Istanbul from Germany, started to stay at the hotel in Fatih with their children Kadir Muhammet and Masal. During the night, mother Çiğdem Böcek found her daughter Masal motionless. Masal Böcek and his older brother Kadir Muhammet, who were taken to the hospital, lost their lives. Mother Çiğdem Böcek died in the hospital to which she was taken on November 14, 2 days after the death of her children. Father Servet Böcek passed away on November 17. In the investigation, it was determined that the family lost their lives due to poisoning due to the pesticide spraying done at the hotel.
THOSE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEATH WERE ARRESTED
In the investigation launched into the death of the family, hotel official Hakan Oğlak, hotel employee Muhammad Moeen Ud In Chıshtı, pest control company owner Zeki Kışı, son of the disinfection company owner Serkan Kışı and pest control company employee Doğan Cağferoğlu were arrested.
REQUESTED PENALTIES
In the indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, the suspects Serkan Kışı, Zeki Kışı, Doğan Cağferoğlu, Hakan Oğlak and Muhammad Moeen Ud In Chıshtı are requested to be punished separately with imprisonment from 2 years, 8 months to 22.5 years for the crime of “causing the death of more than one person through conscious negligence”. A prison sentence of 2 to 15 years is requested for Rustemha Batyrov, on the charge of “negligently causing the death of more than one person”.
THE HOTEL OWNER MADE A DEFENSE
Arrested defendant hotel owner Hakan Oğlak claimed that he was receiving treatment at the time of the incident and could not take care of the hotel and said, “If my property had burned down and this family had lived. Halil said there was a pest complaint in room 101. I told them to call the pest control company. As far as I know, they came and sprayed the room, we kept the room closed for two days. The reason we chose the pest control company was the Google score and the hotel references on the site.” he said.
“I DO NOT BELIEVE THEIR DEATHS ARE DUE TO DISINFESTATION”
Claiming that there was no ventilation between the hotel room where the family stayed and the sprayed room and that it was impossible to be affected, Oğlak said that they had sprayed the pesticide before and no one was harmed. “I do not believe that their deaths were due to spraying. I did not do the spraying anyway.” Continuing his defense, Oğlak stated that he had no fault or negligence in the incident, that he had the pesticide sprayed by a professional company, and that he did not know that the company’s license had been revoked, and requested his release.
HE DEFENDED THE RECEPTION BY LOCKING THE DOOR OF THE HOTEL
Detainee defendant receptionist Muhammad Moeen Ud Din Chishti said that when he went to the hotel, the door of room 101, which was sprayed, was closed, they cleaned the room because the children of the Böcek family vomited, and he went to dinner around 01:00 at night. The defendant, who locked the hotel door, said, “On the way to the hotel, I saw an ambulance in front of the door. I opened the door and helped the family. I’m sorry. I didn’t know about the spraying, they didn’t say anything to me.” he said.
FESTIMATION COMPANY OWNER BLAMES THE MASTERS
In his defense, the detained defendant Zeki Kışı, the owner of the pesticide company, said that the masters knew what the medicines were good for, that he was not knowledgeable about it, that he gave the money to the masters and that they took the medicines and did the spraying, and put the blame on the employees. Kışı said, “I have no knowledge about the pesticide business. I am just the owner of the company. I have no knowledge about the operations. My only knowledge is that we received training for 2-3 months, we did not train the employees.” he said. Thereupon, the presiding judge said, “You have no information about anyone, you have no information about medicine, the people you employ are not competent. Didn’t you foresee that this could happen?” posed the question. The defendant left the question unanswered.

A two-stage system will come to social media platforms! Violent games will be blocked
According to the bill, the gaming platform will not be able to offer games that are not properly rated. Usta said, “Social media companies will not be able to provide services to children under the age of 15.
“THE SAME GAME SHOULD NOT BE PLAYED WITH ADULTS”
They will be obliged to provide content that is differentiated between the ages of 15-18. In other words, they will design a system that does not contain violence and does not allow children to be manipulated. Currently, children can play the same game with an adult. “The adult should not access the environment where the child is playing,” he said.
“INFORMATION WILL NEVER BE SHARED”
Emphasizing that the information will not be shared with third parties, Usta said, “The age verification technique will be applied. There are question marks in everyone’s mind, such as ‘Will children’s data and information be shared?’ It will never be like this. The information will be verified only through e-Government. Then, entry will be allowed by establishing a token, that is, a key lock system, for both social media and games. We expect appropriate content to be presented on social media and game platforms to provide the right service for our children.
They should have representatives in Türkiye so that we can reach them if there is a problem. The European Union has designed apps to protect children online. Actually, we will do this too. We will follow the actions of the media. We also talked to the platforms. They say bring the law, we are ready. They will provide 6-month reports. We will give time as long as we see any deficiencies. “If they do not fix it, they will face sanctions,” he said.

Breaking news | Important statements from MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli: Our future is under digital siege
Emphasizing that space should be made for languages solved with poetry, for minds that shine with mathematics, for wrists that gain discipline through sports, for hearts that gain courage on the stage, Bahçeli said, “Because every opportunity that we do not provide for our children today will be a heavy price that we will pay as a nation tomorrow.” he said.
MHP leader Bahçeli pointed out the events that took place in schools in Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş and underlined that these events cannot be glossed over with shallow and superficial evaluations.
Expressing that these grave developments have opened deep cracks in the conscience, Bahçeli said, “It is essential that the process be handled with a cool, common sense and multifaceted perspective, with all its causes, consequences and developments in the background. Here, the issue cannot be handled only as a public order file. The picture before us should be evaluated together with the pressures of our age on the child’s psyche, the loosening in family ties, the support needed by the school climate, the uncontrolled areas of the digital world and the breaks in the transfer of social values. Violence in the mind of a child, “If anger, loneliness and the desire to imitate accumulate at the same time, not only does an act that is the subject of criminal law occur, but also a sign that society must read carefully.” made his evaluations.
“OUR CHILDREN, OUR FUTURE ARE UNDER A DIGITAL SIEGE”
Emphasizing that with the widespread use of digitalization, the time children spend in front of the screen has increased, Bahçeli continued his words as follows:
“Our children weigh their own values with the number of likes they receive on social media platforms, think that they have gained reputation with the increasing number of followers, and inevitably confuse real emotions with instant reactions given with a finger movement. Our children, our future, are under a digital siege. Momentary and temporary victories that put exposure over privacy overtake effort and patience. It is difficult to close the pure heart of a child who is systematically exposed to ridicule, lynching, humiliation and exclusion among his peers.” “Our children, who are fascinated by the universe presented by bright screens, are lost in attention deficit and sleep problems. We must understand, together with our children, the thin red line between blessing and threat. In the chaos of the digital age, we have to remember the advice of our ancestors who said ‘Less is more, more is harmful.’
Reminding that access to hundreds of social media accounts was blocked following the tragic events in Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş, Bahçeli said, “The closure of many Telegram groups and the initiation of legal proceedings against dozens of individuals have clearly shown that digitalization, when left uncontrolled, can turn into a scheme of mischief that poisons not only the individual but also the life of society.” he said.
Emphasizing that digital channels, chat rooms, chat groups, applications and channels are no longer an innocent communication area, Bahçeli noted that the danger is not only screen addiction, but also a climate of digital subversion that multiplies evil, encourages violence, legitimizes crime, exploits pain and targets the pure conscience of children. Bahçeli used the following statements:
“We cannot abandon our children to the vulgar and violence-normalizing language of social media and television screens, to the destructive structures clustered in closed-circuit dark channels, to the anonymous climate of the virtual world, to the unresponsible calls of those who lack dignity. As the screen light increases, so that the light in our children’s eyes does not fade away, so that the invasion of applications does not steal the time spent with our families, as connections increase, friendship requests increase, and the circle of followers expands, we become lonely, alienated, withdrawn from their roots, “We have to take action today to prevent a generation that moves away.”
“THE STRUGGLE IS NOT TO SAVE THE DAY, BUT TO BUILD THE FUTURE”
MHP Chairman Bahçeli stated that the disintegration that started in the individual will spread to the society, and the weakness growing in the society will threaten the future of the nation, and said, “When digitalization erodes our values, as the time spent in front of the television increases, as the silence within the family increases, as the words of so-called social media phenomena take precedence over the teachings of our valuable teachers, as the ideas of unlimited and uncontrolled freedom prune the educational power of the school, as our children are thrown into the deluge of unpredictable content, such tragedies will occur.” “The ground is expanding.” he said.
Emphasizing that the solution cannot be provided only by security guards waiting at the school gates and cameras hung on the walls, Bahçeli stated that it is not their job to take dressing measures after the incident occurs and lives are lost.
Pointing out that the issue is deeper, more serious and broader, Bahçeli said, “We will not be among those who cover up this issue, but will be among those who will root it out, and this struggle is not a struggle to save the day, but to build the future. There is no rest for us without strengthening the family, restoring schools to their primary role of building education and personality, and strengthening guidance and psychosocial support mechanisms.” he said.
Bahçeli said that what needs to be done cannot be limited to surrounding children with discipline alone and said, “It is necessary to listen to children, understand them, direct them, keep them busy, raise them in a safe world of meaning and make them have a personality. A child is not a being that only requires orders, it is a trust that requires attention, belonging, wanting to be seen and trust.” made his assessment.
Emphasizing that the education system should center this truth, Bahçeli said, “Education cannot be seen as just the transfer of knowledge, it is the art of establishing the inner order of the human being. Compassion, measure, patience, dignity, responsibility and the inviolability of human life should be taught as much as mathematics, history, science and literature. Our teachers are not only officials teaching in the classroom, but exceptional personalities who touch the moral backbone of the society and build the personality world of our children.” he said.
“THE FUTURE OF A NATION THAT WEAKS TEACHERS CANNOT BE STRONG”
MHP Chairman Bahçeli emphasized that the cause of education would be stillborn from the very beginning with an understanding that trivializes the teacher, and described the teacher as “the dignity of the school, the carrier column of education, the soldier of knowledge and wisdom that guides the future of the nation.”
Underlining that it is an inexplicable heedlessness to break away from a tradition that regards the teacher as a second parent, exalts, honors, and respects the teacher and drags him/her into the position of a lecturer and a civil servant, Bahçeli said, “In a system where the teacher’s reputation is damaged, his words are devalued, and his authority in the classroom is eroded, neither a solid educational system can be established nor a generation shaped by national and moral values can be built. The future of a nation whose teachers are weakened cannot be strong.” he said.
Pointing out that supporting families is equally vital, Bahçeli said, “Modern city life, work pace, economic pressures, the invasion of the digital world and the weakening of social ties often leave the family alone. When the family is alone, the child is also lonely. Therefore, instead of targeting the family, it is necessary to strengthen the family, expand guidance systems, make child and adolescent mental health services accessible, and make school-family-state cooperation more functional.” he said.
Expressing that the responsibility on this issue belongs to everyone, Bahçeli asked the political establishment not to produce conflicting language on this issue and the academy to guide with real information. Stating that the bureaucracy should strengthen inter-institutional coordination, Bahçeli continued his words as follows:
“Families should look at the inner world of their children more carefully and the digital awareness capacity of families should be increased. The media should stay away from a publishing approach that increases pain. Access to weapons, the language of violence, peer bullying, digital radicalization and social isolation should be evaluated within a common child protection architecture, not as individual files. The current meaning of April 23 is hidden in this balance. National sovereignty is not only the right to sovereignty, but also the regime of responsibility. Everyone who makes decisions on behalf of the nation is responsible before history for the safety, peace and future of children. “As much as the Parliament represents the will of the nation, it also entrusts the future of children. Therefore, our call today is a call for common sense.”
“THE COMMISSION HAS TO BE A MOBILIZATION DESK THAT DETECTS THE THREAT AT ITS SOURCE”
MHP leader Bahçeli said that every prejudice made, every opportunistic sentence made, every political drift made before all aspects of the events are clarified will serve no purpose other than covering up the truth, exploiting the pain, and causing another wound in the lives of children.
“No one should try to make a statement based on the lives of our children, to create politics based on the tears of the nation, and to add such painful events to the mix of daily polemics.” Bahçeli said, “Our demand is clear, our expectation is clear, our call is an obligation that cannot tolerate delay: The reasons must be investigated to the end. If there are negligences, they must be revealed one by one. The chain of responsibility must be determined without hiding.” he said.
Bahçeli, who wanted permanent measures to be taken without delay to protect school security, children’s mental health, and the peace of teachers and families, reminded that the school attacks in Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş will be discussed in the General Assembly of the Turkish Grand National Assembly. Bahçeli said:
“It is undoubtedly an accurate and appropriate step that our Gazi Assembly has demonstrated a common and supra-political will to establish an investigation commission after the heinous school attacks in Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş. The work of the previously established and completed investigation commission on children dragged into crime has also created an important preparation ground in this sense. From this point on, the issue is not about the heat of an individual attack, but about the situation of our children trapped in the clutches of crime and violence by considering multi-front risk factors. “This commission to be established must be a mobilization table that does not waste time and multiply words, but takes our children under its wing and identifies the threat at its source. Our children are our future, and our future is above all kinds of political calculations and all kinds of polemics.”
Bahçeli expressed his condolences to those who lost their lives in the school attack, his condolences to their grieving families, and wished a speedy recovery to those who were injured.
On the other hand, it was seen that Bahçeli was wearing a badge prepared in the same concept as the ring, which included the lines “When you wake up, the essence of the Turk/The word of God comes true” from Niyazi Yıldırım Gençosmanoğlu’s poem “Meydan”, and on the side surfaces of which star and crescent motifs were embroidered in geometric decorations specific to the Seljuk period.
