Ümit Dikbayır’s words drew a big reaction: Kurdish identity fight in CHP
CHP Sakarya Deputy Ümit Dikbayır’s statement on his social media account, “There are no Kurdish people, we have citizens of Kurdish origin”, caused great discomfort in the party he joined only 2 months ago. In addition to the party base, MPs and provincial and district leaders also reacted to Dikbayır’s statement.
‘A CLEAR LANGUAGE OF DENIAL’
Speaking to SABAH, CHP Diyarbakır Kayapınar District Chairman Hamza Dengiz said, “It is neither scientific nor democratic to discuss the existence of a people who are one of the most ancient peoples of Mesopotamia, who have existed in these lands for tens of thousands of years, who have their own language, deep-rooted culture and historical memory. The statement is not only unfortunate, but also an open language of denial targeting the identities of millions of people. This language of denial has never brought any gain to the country, and it will not do so in the future.”
CHP Diyarbakır Provincial Deputy Chairman Şaban Kocakaya said, “CHP’s constitution, program and perspective on the Kurds are clear. Kurds are one of the ancient peoples of the Middle East. They neither come into existence nor disappear as someone says. They have always existed. They will exist from now on.” Provincial Education Secretary and Congress Delegate Remzi Sürek stated that Dikbayır should be referred to party discipline due to his words. Dikbayır, one of the founders of İyi Party and who was expelled from the party 2 years ago by the chairman’s request when it was revealed that he had examined the bank accounts of Akşener’s family and private secretary Esma Bekar, joined the CHP on October 21, 2025.
THE DEBATE EXTENDED TO THE GNAT
CHP Sakarya Deputy Ümit Dikbayır’s public statements, “There are no Kurdish people in Türkiye, there are people of Kurdish origin”, were also answered by CHP Kars Deputy İnan Akgün Alp at the Parliament podium. Emphasizing that these statements had negative effects on the people of the region, Alp stated that these statements were perceived as “the denial of the Kurdish people” and that they revived some past concerns in the region. Emphasizing that social peace should not be damaged, Alp said, “My request from our people is this: Please do not rely on denial-based racist provocations aimed at disrupting political consensus and social reconciliation.”

Speaking at the meeting attended by 150 district governors in 32 provinces, Minister of Internal Affairs Mustafa Çiftçi stated that the first topic they would discuss at the meeting was the goal of ‘Terror-free Türkiye’. Terrorism and terrorism; as well as our public order in all its forms related to ethnic, ideological, cyber and organized crime structures; Stating that it is one of the biggest threats targeting social unity, economic stability and the peace of the nation, Çiftçi said that the terrorist organization has been a shadow on Türkiye’s bright future for 40 years.

Important statement from MHP Chairman Bahçeli regarding absolute nullity: CHP must purify itself
While the confusion that started after the absolute nullity decision in CHP continued, new statements came from Bahçeli. Speaking at his party’s Grand National Assembly Group Meeting, Bahçeli said, “The CHP must, first of all, purify itself, purify and calm down.”
IT IS PROGRESSING TO A HARMFUL POINT: The holiday, which is a ground of peace, tranquility and brotherhood with its spiritual climate, has turned into a time of deepening polarization for the CHP instead of embracing each other. The developments are moving from a level that does not suit CHP institutionalism to a point that is harmful to our political culture and democracy. Türkiye’s counter-terrorism and social integration goals depend on political stability and social reconciliation as well as security policies.
DANGEROUS DISCOURSES SHOULD BE AVOIDED: Our expectation is to avoid dangerous discourses and actions that will disrupt social peace and increase provocations, such as physical struggle, instead of legal and political struggle. Not to develop a divisive language and style through national memory places and national heroes for political purposes. The issue should not move away from the basis of law, the platform of democracy, political competition and decency.
No one should dare to stir up Türkiye. The events should not take to the streets and lead to demonstrations with calls for physical struggle, attacks on security forces, or disruption of public order. The Supreme Court, which is the authority of objection to the court decision, should give its decision regarding the objection as soon as possible, considering the sensitivity of the issue. Turkish politics and democracy should not be allowed to be damaged.
We wish to integrate these principles with our future vision with a terrorism-free Türkiye. We strive to completely eliminate terrorism from these lands, bring stability to our region and trash the goals of imperialism.

Bahçeli’s ring and badge featured the motif of Kürşad, one of the important figures of Turkish history, and Bozkurt. While there are 40 stars symbolizing Kürşad’s 40 wives in the design, the word “TÜRK” in the Göktürk alphabet on the top of the ring attracted attention. In addition, the inclusion of Turkish flag motifs on both sides of the ring was cited as one of the meaningful details.
