Early election thesis collapsed with by-elections
AK Party Deputy Chairman Ali İhsan Yavuz made a statement to journalists about the mayoral by-elections held in Yolüstü and Çevrecik towns of Tokat’s Reşadiye district, Bağtaşı in Almus district, Kuşçu towns in Yeşilyurt district, Tekke Town in Gümüşhane’s Central district and Mustafapaşa Town in Nevşehir’s Ürgüp district. Stating that they nominated candidates in 5 towns and supported the MHP candidate in 1 town, Yavuz said that comprehensive studies were carried out for these regions.
WHAT WILL ORAL SAY? Recalling CHP Group Chairman Özgür Özel’s evaluations regarding the town elections, Yavuz said, “We saw that these elections completely destroyed, refuted and discarded Özgür Özel’s thesis that ‘it will be a rehearsal for early elections’. When we look at the numbers, Özgür Özel has nothing left to say, he collapsed. But I wonder what he will say next.” Stating that the opposition occasionally talks about the polls and makes various statements regarding the AK Party’s vote rates, Yavuz said, “The state of the AK Party seen in today’s polls is not lower than its state in the last general elections, that is, in the 2023 elections, but on the contrary, it is higher.”
THE RESULTS ARE CLEAR: Yavuz emphasized that, according to the 2024 Provincial General Assembly vote statistics, the AK Party has increased its vote rates in these towns, and stated that this is the result of the work carried out in unity and that it shows the increase in the nation’s favor towards President Erdoğan. Yavuz said that these results emerged despite Özel organizing rallies everywhere and conducting perception studies with ‘superimposed’ forces.

Özel’s duty is to act with common sense.
Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli made statements regarding the agenda at the group meeting held in the Turkish Grand National Assembly. While Bahçeli devoted a significant part of his speech to CHP, he called on Manisa Deputy Özgür Özel and said:
EXEMPLARY TABLE: The management crisis that CHP has fallen into is clearly visible. The fact that legal processes that should be met with common sense are overshadowed by a challenging tone is one of the signs of the political apocalypse. The fact that the need for purification and calm within the party is overshadowed by threatening sentences is a proof of administrative bankruptcy.
THERE IS A TERRIBLE VIEW IN CHP: Our issue is not to make political gains from the mess CHP has fallen into. Our issue preserves the weight of the political institution, the respect of the will of the nation and the rule of law in Türkiye.
THERE ARE TWO SEPARATE LEGITIMACY CLAIMS IN CHP: Today, CHP has two different directions, two different languages, two separate centers, two separate claims to legitimacy; This is a worrying fact regarding the course of the opposition. On the one hand, the need to return to legal ground meets the desire for recovery. On the other hand, there are displays of power through defiance, and the desire to escalate the crisis within the party through street language is settling on the agenda like a heavy fog. CHP and Mr. Özgür Özel’s duty is not to add fuel to the fire, but to act with common sense. The legal process, which must be carried out calmly, should not be left to the noise of the crowds. CHP should not leave its own complicated conflict to the heat of the squares. CHP has two paths ahead of it. He will either solve his own internal issue on the basis of law and common sense, or he will carry the knot he has grown with his own hands as a new burden on our nation’s agenda.
BUHRAN AYAN STATEMENT IS CLEAR: Our advice to Özel is clear. He must stop shouldering the internal tension of the CHP and carrying it to the squares, spreading the crack within the CHP throughout the country, and presenting the race for positions as heroism of democracy.
TIME HAS PROVEN US RIGHT: It has become clear how vital the goal of a terror-free Türkiye is. Türkiye without terrorism is the armor of our national existence against regional storms. For years, they were amused by our promise of “national survival”. They belittled our concerns about the future of our state. They attempted to confine the historical reason for existence of the People’s Alliance to the narrow calculations of daily politics. As a matter of fact, time proved us right. The goal of a terrorism-free Türkiye will be pursued with determination.
THE RING AND THE BADGE DRAWED ATTENTION
The ring and badge that Bahçeli wore at his party’s group meeting attracted attention. Both of them included the words “I bought you such a homeland that it will be yours forever”, attributed to Sultan Alparslan. On the “side cak” parts of the ring, the wing form of the Seljuk eagle symbol was applied with the nailing technique.
HEARD FOR THE FIRST TIME
Before the meeting, upon Bahçeli’s request, the anthem called “We Are Behind You”, prepared for the National Team that will represent Türkiye in the 2026 World Cup, was played. Bahçeli said, “Since the Turkish national team participated in the World Cup in the USA, some circles focused on anthem work. It was planned to repeat the works sung in the past. However, considering the idealist sensitivity during this period, I asked our artists to prepare a new anthem.”

CHP’s Görkem Duman was arrested for corruption! CHP’s vice presidential candidates brought about merit debates
Buca Deputy Mayor election will be held on Friday, June 12. While the political lobbies were getting more active before the critical vote, it started to be talked about loudly in the political lobbies, where the Republican People’s Party (CHP) Group focused on three names for the election. According to allegations, possible candidates on CHP’s table are; Uğur Aydın, Mesut Karaboğa and Ulaş Koç stand out. However, the public reflections of these three names bring about various discussions on the axis of transparency and merit.
Ugur Aydin
COMMERCIAL BACKGROUND AND TENDER DISCUSSIONS
It is stated that Lawyer Uğur Aydın, whose name is among the candidates, played an active role in the activities of his father Ekrem Aydın, who received many tenders from the municipality during the period of former Mayor Levent Piriştina and then grew up in the construction sector. In the shadow of these past commercial relations, the emergence of Aydin’s candidacy for vice president raises questions in terms of transparency and ethical principles in the public. It is stated that Buca voters expect the future of the district to be managed with an understanding that prioritizes the interests of the people rather than personal relationships and commercial pasts.
Mesut Karaboga
COUNCIL MEMBERSHIP AND JOB DESCRIPTION CREATED QUESTION MARKS
The situation of another possible candidate, Mesut Karaboğa, is being scrutinized from both legal and ethical dimensions. The fact that he is still an active firefighter while also serving as a municipal council member is one of the most questioned issues in the public. The fact that a name about whom there have been various allegations and criticisms for a long time, aspires to govern the city, reignites the discussions on merit and trust-based management in one of the largest districts of Izmir, such as Buca.
Gorkem Duman
DEVELOPMENT PROCESSES AND CONTRACTING ACTIVITIES ARE ON THE AGENDA
The name of the third candidate, Ulaş Koç, who operates in the construction sector, is mentioned with the recent development and contracting operations throughout the city. The fact that these sensitive processes in the past remain fresh in memory makes Koç’s candidacy possibility open to discussion.
While the people of Buca reiterate their demand for a transparent and trustworthy management profile before the vote on June 12, it is eagerly awaited under which name the CHP group will go to the ballot box.

‘COP31’ call from Minister Kurum to the world: “Let’s shape the future together in Antalya”
OBJECTIVES OF THE COP31 ACTION AGENDA
Explaining the 6 global implementation goals of the COP31 Action Agenda in his presentation, Minister Kurum invited all parties and the international community to unite around these goals. Minister Kurum stated that the first of the goals was ‘electrification’: In all the meetings we held, one theme stood out very clearly: Electrification. Electrification is one of the main topics that complement renewable energy and energy efficiency to achieve the 1.5 degree target. It is also one of the most important keys to decarbonization. Today the demand for electricity is increasing significantly. However, network inadequacies, financing gaps, policy incompatibilities and high initial investment costs limit progress in electrification. Despite all these difficulties, we aim to achieve a 35 percent electrification rate by 2035 by demonstrating a common will on a global scale to accelerate electrification. The ’35 percent by 2035′ target will be one of the main priorities of our COP31 Presidency. In the period leading up to COP31 to be held in Antalya, we will work to create a strong global coalition for this goal.
ZERO WASTE MOVEMENT AND METHANE REDUCTION
Secondly, underlining the Zero Waste Movement and methane reduction initiated under the auspices of First Lady Erdoğan, Minister Kurum said, “With this initiative, we want to take Zero Waste to a higher level in climate policy. Reducing methane gas is one of the most rapidly applicable opportunities to slow down global warming. The waste sector accounts for approximately 20 percent of human-caused methane emissions. We have proven and scalable solutions. This is especially true in reducing methane emissions from human-caused waste.” “We call on all parties to adopt the goal of reducing the increase in waste production by half by 2035,” he said.
RESILIENT CITIES AND GREEN TRANSFORMATION IN INDUSTRY
Minister Kurum said the following regarding the ‘resilient cities’ target of the Action Agenda: Resilient Cities are one of the topics that our Action Agenda emphasizes. This title has many sub-dimensions. However, at this stage, I would like to share with you our emission reduction target, especially in buildings. Reducing emissions and increasing energy efficiency in buildings is critical to the climate resilience of cities. In this context, we would like to open to the views of the parties the goal of reducing the energy use intensity in the building sector by at least 25 percent by 2035.
Fourthly, emphasizing the topic of green transformation in industry, Minister Kurum said, “It will be an important achievement for the rate of circular material use in the production and manufacturing sectors to reach at least 15 percent by 2035 for green transformation in the industry. This target will make a strong contribution to both emission reduction and resource saving.”
“A STRONG CLIMATE AWARENESS MUST BE CREATED IN THE SOCIETY BY 2035”
Fifthly, Minister Kurum explained the title of ‘Awareness in all areas’ as follows: We do not consider the fight against waste, food safety and climate awareness as separate topics; We consider it as a common area of transformation that should be spread to all segments of society. Millions of people around the world today face food insecurity. Climate crisis; It directly affects the table, water, agricultural production, rural life and the life security of future generations. Therefore, to eliminate the disconnection between food, water and climate topics; We have to build a more resilient, more efficient and more fair system. In this context, we will support an approach that reduces waste, uses resources efficiently and strengthens climate awareness in every field from agriculture to industry, from education to social life, from public services to the business world. We attach importance to informing young people, farmers, producers, employees and the entire society about climate resilient practices. In this context, we aim to include climate change issues in education curricula by 2030 and to create a strong awareness throughout society by 2035 by supporting non-formal education activities.
CLIMATE APPLICATION BRIDGE
Drawing attention to the importance of the sixth and last heading, ‘Climate Implementation Bridge’, Minister Kurum said, “While implementing all these goals, we will adopt a comprehensive approach that takes into account the different conditions and priorities of the countries. In order to support the achievement of these goals, we will cooperate closely with all countries, especially developing economies. We will contribute to strengthening access to technical assistance, capacity building activities and financial support mechanisms. The new mechanism we define as the Climate Implementation Bridge aims to fill this gap. The Climate Implementation Bridge aims to fill this gap, especially in developing and underdeveloped countries.” “It aims to strengthen the harmony between its goals and economic and development policies. This mechanism will contribute to creating an investment-friendly environment,” he said.
“CLIMATE APPLICATION BRIDGE IS NOT A NEW FUND, BUT A COMPLEMENTARY INITIATIVE”
Climate Application Bridge; Underlining that it will support the establishment of a stronger link between NDCs and economic policies, Minister Kurum said: It will help countries transform their priorities into investable project portfolios. It will also play a facilitating role in enabling appropriate financing solutions and private capital to contribute on a larger scale. I would like to emphasize that the Climate Implementation Bridge is not a new fund. It is not a new financing mechanism. It is not an alternative to existing initiatives. On the contrary, it is a complementary initiative that supports the existing climate finance and implementation ecosystem, strengthens partnerships between actors and focuses on implementation. Our aim is to reduce the gap between climate goals and real investments. To ensure that finance reaches the field faster, more effectively and more result-oriented.
“IN THE COMING MONTHS, WE WANT TO PROGRESS WORK ON ALL 10 PRIORITY THEMES”
Minister Kurum emphasized that they are determinedly carrying out the preparation process for COP31 to be held in Antalya and said, “In the coming weeks and months, we want to advance the work in all 10 priority themes and in areas beyond these themes. We want to turn our work within the scope of COP31 and the Global Climate Action Agenda into success together. To achieve this, we need the support of all of you as the COP31 Presidency. Today, the world is not only waiting for new decisions. The world wants to see the decisions made come true. Because nature is tired, humanity is tired.
Drought extends to the table; floods wash away a life’s work in one night; Fires burn not only trees but also memories, homes and hope for the future. For the children who cannot access clean water, for the farmers who entrust their future to the soil, for the families who lost their homes and hopes in disasters; “We must act faster now for the children who pay the heaviest price even though they are not responsible for the release of emissions, and for the generations that will inherit this world after us,” he said.
“WE MET IN BONN, WE LISTENED, WE WILL MEET AGAIN IN ANTALYA”
At the end of his speech, Minister Kurum said that Hazrat Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi said, “Yesterday is gone with yesterday, my dear, now we need to say new things and do new things!” He called with the words: Now is the time to do new things. Let’s take action instead of waiting. Let’s turn intention into practice. Let’s finalize the commitments. Let’s turn our differences into common solution power. Let’s not just talk about the future in Antalya; Let’s shape the future together. With the call of Yunus Emre, one of the brave men of Anatolia, “Let’s get acquainted, let’s make the job easier.” We met in Bonn, we listened, we will meet again in Antalya. Together, we will take climate action from words to practice, from practice to results. We will shape the future together.
A TRIPLE PRESS CONFERENCE WAS HELD
UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Executive Secretary Simon Stiell and Australian Minister of Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen also made speeches at the programme. COP31 President Kurum, UNFCCC Executive Secretary Stiell and Australian Minister of Climate Change and Energy Bowen held a triple press conference and answered questions from members of the press.
