Emphasizing that natural disasters cannot be completely prevented, but it is possible to reduce their destructive effects, Çiftçi reminded that Türkiye frequently faces disasters such as floods, landslides and fire, especially earthquakes, and said, “We have to strengthen our preparedness capacity against disasters in every sense, increase awareness and create risk reduction strategies.”

PREPARATION CAPACITY WILL BE STRENGTHENED

Stating that the earthquakes that occurred on February 6, 2023 and were remembered as the “disaster of the century” caused heavy losses, Çiftçi stated that disaster management is not a process that can be started at the time of crisis and said, “Disaster management is a process that starts before a disaster occurs and whose negative effects will be minimized with science, education and planning.” Emphasizing that the signed protocol will strengthen the preparedness capacity for disasters and emergencies, Çiftçi said, “It will make a great contribution to our disaster management processes from primary education to universities.”

The UNSC actually means nothing and is just an institution on paper? There was an institution to control world trade, but that institution is in disarray. Another person stands up and attacks UNESCO, but there is no action to be taken. The school established for refugees in Palestine is bombed, and the relevant UN board does not hear anything. Even the UN Secretary General is kept waiting at the gate of Gaza. “As a result, we have entered a period in which almost all institutions have become dysfunctional, unable to fulfill any of their duties, and their institutional structures have collapsed,” he said.

Kurtulmuş added that the generally accepted terminology of international relations has been destroyed and the concepts of ‘proportionality’, ‘humanitarian intervention’, ‘self-defense’ and ‘preventive attack’ have disappeared. Kurtulmuş said, “The next period will be more difficult, complex, chaotic and full of crises. In this process, it is once again obvious that the geography we are in is the most difficult region in the world. As Turkey, we will continue to explain our ideas that will put forward peace, justice, well-being, balance and stability on every platform by closely following all the developments in our region, without war-mongering and without giving credence to the voices that feed on crisis and chaos.
