MHP will start its congress process from Samsun’s İlkadım district on May 19.

Published

on

Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Deputy Chairman Semih Yalçın announced that his party’s “First Step and First Party Congress” will be held in Samsun’s İlkadım district on May 19.

Yalçın made a written statement regarding his party’s congress process.

Reminding that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s arrival to Samsun to start the struggle for independence during the War of Independence was called “the first step”, Yalçın said, “The first step is an expression that provides a strong bond with the spirit of the War of Independence by reinforcing the concepts of freedom and independence that constitute the essence of the War of Independence. This equation, established through the relationship between symbol and concept, gives a deep, final and at the same time sacred meaning to Atatürk’s arrival in Samsun.” he said.

Yalçın stated that the concept of “first step” reflects both an unwavering move towards the integrity and freedom of the homeland, as well as the perseverance and determination displayed for the survival and independence of the nation, and said, “The first step is an indelible stamp on history in the direction of our nation’s reflex of existence. In this respect, we can remember the date of May 19, 1919 from the end of a dangerous ferry journey to the passengers’ arrival at a distinguished place on the shores of the Black Sea.” “The fact that it is not just about setting foot on land in our city gives an epic character to the concept of ‘first step’.” made his assessment.

Pointing out that MHP sometimes uses concepts that reflect the love of history as symbols in order to enrich communication with the public and dominate the climate of political dialogue, Yalçın said:

“The idea of a Terror-Free Turkey put forward by our Chairman, Mr. Devlet Bahçeli, towards the establishment of internal peace and consolidation of the law of brotherhood in the face of inevitable changes and transformations taking place both in our region and in the world, as well as new global threats to Türkiye’s integrity, is a very good political ‘first step’. At a time when terrorism is used as a form of politics, a weapon of fight; the peace and order of the people are stolen, and the external threat to Türkiye’s survival is growing, MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli’s Terror-Free Turkey idea is a very good political ‘first step’. Türkiye’s call is a huge ‘first step’ towards national reconciliation.

In accordance with the decision taken at our party’s Central Executive Committee meeting dated April 27, 2026, it was decided that the first congress step within the framework of the congress process started on May 7 will be taken in İlkadım district of Samsun on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. The timing of the İlkadım Congress on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, the 107th anniversary of Atatürk’s arrival in Samsun, has a symbolic purpose. “Samsun İlkadım, where the first MHP district congress will be held, symbolizes both the spirit of the National Struggle, the existential reflex that gave life to the idea of a Terror-Free Turkey, and the determination for survival embodied in the Nationalist-Idealist Movement.”

“WE SEE IT AS AN ANTIDOZE TO COLONIALISM”

Yalçın stated that on the occasion of “First Step and First Party Congress”, the importance of keeping the spirit of May 19 alive for Türkiye’s unity and integrity and for the nation to live in peace, harmony and tranquility will be emphasized.

Stating that the positive role played by Terror-Free Türkiye in further strengthening and reinforcing the national state structure will be reminded at the congress, Yalçın said:

“The events that have taken place in our geography in recent years point to the legitimacy of MHP’s theses regarding the reinforcement of the national state structure. As MHP, we see a strong national state structure as an antidote to colonialism not only for Turkey but for all threatened regional states. The proliferation of national states in the region and in the world will contribute to the survival of independent states and the family of sovereign nations. The more strong national state structures and independent countries there are in the world, the more ineffective imperialism will be. The national states of regional countries such as Iran, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon “Protecting state structures is also of vital importance for Türkiye’s security. Terror-free Turkey means having the necessary reflexes and equipment to resist negative external factors and survive. Our party’s Samsun İlkadım congress will be held with this awareness, and the entire congress process will continue with the same consciousness and synergy. As a result, the Ordinary Grand Congress on March 7, 2027 will be held with the same spirit and belief.”

During the meeting, Gürlek expressed his condolences to the family and said, “There is a murder here. The state must solve this murder and address it. Especially the death of a young brother in the prime of his life is the responsibility of the state.” he said.
Emphasizing that, as a state, they will solve these murders and that all means will be mobilized, Gürlek said: “If there is a crime, there is definitely a perpetrator. It is our duty to solve it. In these cases, evidence must be collected as soon as possible. Just because it was not collected then, does not mean that it will not be collected now. Every trace, finding and data deemed suspicious should be re-evaluated with today’s technology and conditions.”

Minister Gürlek met with Çağla Tuğaltay's family!

“DNA OF THE 12 PEOPLE WHO ENTERED THE BUILDING WILL BE EXAMINED”

Gürlek stated that the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office found it appropriate to make a “fethi grave” for the 4 people who were suspected of Çağla Tuğaltay’s murder and lost their lives, upon the request of the family, and also stated that DNA samples could be taken for new suspects. Gürlek stated that the DNA analysis of the 12 people who entered the building later would be conducted, and that the homicide bureau teams at the time would be interviewed and the investigation authorities would evaluate whether they had any other evidence. Referring to the newly established Unsolved Crimes Investigation Department, Gürlek said:

Minister Gürlek met with Çağla Tuğaltay's family!

“We are not an investigation authority, we do not have the authority to give instructions to judges and prosecutors. Our friends are professionals in this field, our friends in the unit we established, the general manager, the deputy general manager and the head of department, are professionals. We look at it from a different perspective. In order to accelerate and resolve the process, we investigate what kind of technical opportunities we have at all institutions of the state and ensure that the relevant institutions are put at the service of the investigation authorities. It is entirely at the discretion of the investigation authorities to employ the relevant institutions in this regard and appreciate the necessity of the procedures.”
