Minister Fidan: Türkiye always protects itself
Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan met with Ankara representatives of media organizations at iftar.
Answering the questions here, Minister Fidan said the following when asked about the scenarios regarding the course of the war between Iran and the USA-Israel:
“The developments may put both the future of our region and global stability at risk. Iran’s direct targeting of US bases in Arab countries in the region increases the possibility that the steps taken will turn into a larger regional security crisis. Another topic is the Strait of Hormuz. Closing the Strait could lead to serious fluctuations in the global financial and energy markets. This could force the US to get results in a short time. On the other hand, we see that the attacks did not lead to a very significant movement in Iran’s proxies in the region in the first stage. But There have been some movements on the Hezbollah side, but there does not seem to be a fluctuation among the Iranian people at a scale that will “result in regime change”.
The most negative scenario under current conditions is this: The conflict will continue to escalate and an environment of instability will be created that will engulf the entire region, including Iran. In addition, there is an energy dimension. Cutting off the flow of natural gas from Iran or experiencing a serious disruption in energy imports from the Gulf countries could pose a significant risk to energy supply security on a global scale. We study the military, security, political, economic and energy dimensions of this issue separately; We continue our preparations on the steps that can be taken according to possible scenarios. Our basic wish and demand is clear: Mutual attacks should stop as soon as possible and diplomacy should be resumed. “We emphasize this clearly in all our meetings.”
“We even delayed the start of the war.”
On the question of how long the war will last, Minister Fidan said, “Netanyahu, of course, wants a threat called Iran to be eliminated, both for today and for the future. What he defined the threat as, he defined it as the capabilities that Iran has. Now he goes beyond the capabilities and defines it as the regime itself. He has the goal of regime change. The war was what we were trying to prevent from happening. We fought for it. Frankly, we also offered creative solutions. In fact, we even delayed the start of the war. In fact, the war was going to start earlier, we took a little longer.” We delayed it with these efforts. Maybe they could have achieved a result, but they chose to return to the old method. Again, this war started in the middle of the negotiation. The Iranians actually describe the issue of starting the war in the middle of the negotiation as a betrayal of diplomacy. We need to seriously look at what will happen next.
Of course, here it is necessary to look at the intentions of the attacking forces. I think Israel and the USA will want to prevent Iran from being a threat in the future. Now Iran is also making efforts to generate costs. It is also currently generating costs by bombing energy targets in the Gulf. Frankly, we will see how long this cost will continue and what will happen. But it doesn’t seem like the answer Iran expects will come… Iran will say that by bombing these places, they should put pressure on America, stop the war, etc., but that doesn’t seem to happen. “I don’t know how much Iran has left… However, Iran can really disturb Israel with missiles and drones, if it uses them seriously,” he said.
Minister Fidan said the following when asked about the PKK presence in Iran:
“Now, we have seen signs of a similar movement in the region in the first war. Now, we are closely monitoring whether there will be a movement or not. In other words, we see that Kurdish groups of different stripes have come together and formed an alliance and made joint statements. Of course, we follow these closely. How long will they fight the regime, how long will they fight other ethnicities in their places, what will happen, what are they aiming for, what comes from where, we follow and analyze all of them.
PKK, like all terrorist organizations, is a structure that takes advantage of the weaknesses and divisions in the countries they are in. There is a process currently ongoing in the Parliament regarding terrorism-free Turkey, the Commission has completed its report. From now on, political parties’ compromises, ideas, harmony among themselves… What kind of decisions will they make? From now on, there will be a basis for discussion. But what we see is that in order to have a terrorist-free Türkiye, there must be a terrorism-free zone. We always have to use this to correct the technical language a little. The terror-free zone issue is an issue that concerns Syria, Iraq and Iran. Unless the organization puts its own will into the equation here, it is not possible to take certain steps in a Terror-Free Türkiye. We are following closely. The political process within is a separate issue. As I said, the political parties have now received the report. They are watching, and they will probably make a decision themselves. Let’s see in the new period.”
Regarding the possibility of Iran targeting the island of Cyprus, Minister Fidan said, “I am not thinking about it at the moment. I think the risk in the south is limited, very limited. There may not be much for civilian facilities.”
Asked whether the Gulf countries will respond to Iran, Minister Fidan said, “Of course, they do not officially declare it, but there are some claims that the countries in the region are responding to Iran. We hear these claims too. This may be true.”
Is there a possibility that the attacks will be directed towards Türkiye?
“Is there a possibility that the attacks will be directed towards Türkiye?” Minister Fidan said, “I am speaking independently of the Iran issue: Türkiye always protects itself. We have the will and the ability to do this.”
Minister Fidan explained the international efforts to end the tension as follows:
“We continue the necessary initiatives with all our interlocutors with sensitivity. We are making intense efforts to ensure tranquility and re-establish an environment of peace. Maintaining stability in Iran and our region in general is critical. For this reason, we say at every opportunity that the conflicts must end as soon as possible and the diplomatic process must begin.
Actually, there is no single-layer negotiation here, there are multi-layer negotiations. First, can we bring the warring parties back to the table? When will the attacking party stop or be ready to stop its attack? The minimum is to achieve a military inadequacy that will satisfy them. The minimum is the condition of stopping the war… The maximum is regime change. That is, the war can end with the destruction or neutralization of basic military capabilities at the earliest, and with a regime change in Iran at the latest. Achieving this minimum requirement will require a certain period of time and a certain sequence of military operations. Iran is a wide geography. Missile systems, radar systems, air defense systems, electronic warfare systems and naval forces are dispersed in many places.
We have been talking with Europeans for a few days, Kaja Kallas called and asked. France called today, we talked for a very long time. Now he wants to speak German. Merz spoke with our President. Ursula von der Leyen called in the same way. If you want peace, let’s work together. We are driving them to action. Currently, Gulf countries are facing a serious situation. We are talking to Omanis. There, Oman is still trying to do something. “We’re talking to the Americans.”
“We have approximately 20 thousand citizens in Iran, including dual citizens.”
Minister Fidan said the following about the situation of our citizens in the Region:
“On the one hand, we continue our contacts for a diplomatic solution, and on the other hand, we closely monitor our citizens in conflict zones. So far, we have not had any citizens injured or killed in the incidents.
We have approximately 20 thousand citizens in Iran, including dual citizens. As of now, both our Turkish citizens and third country citizens can pass into our country without any problems through our three border gates with Iran. We have a call center, our Consulates General, our Embassies, the General Directorate of Consular Affairs and Citizenship Affairs here, that is, we work 24 hours a day. We receive a report every hour. Currently, there is not a big problem in terms of life safety, but there was a problem especially in the return of our citizens who were on holiday in Dubai because the airspace is closed except for Saudi Arabia. I think Saudi Arabia has opened its airspace as of yesterday. Our citizens can come by plane via Riyadh or Jeddah. There are also those who live and work there. There may not be many people on holiday. We are in close communication and communication with them. “1500 citizens from all over the region reached our Consulate Call Center and requested information.”
Asked about the possibility of a migration wave, Minister Fidan said, “We have been holding a coordination meeting with the relevant units under the coordination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since the last June War. Internal Affairs, AFAD, Red Crescent, Defense, MİT… We are making all kinds of planning. May our people be of peace in this regard. We have the necessary means and planning. Currently, Iran does not remove its own citizens from the border. Iran does not allow it at the moment. Therefore, no one from Iran is coming to us at the moment. But right now, the Iranian people, as we saw in the previous war, 12-13 days.” “They did nothing the entire time,” he said.
Effects of the war on Gaza
Minister Fidan said the following in response to the questions asked:
“Of course, it has a bad effect, it will have a bad effect. Now, Israel is stopping the entrance and exit to Gaza, you know, because of the war, and the other countries that have been hit are the countries we work with in Gaza, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, etc. These are all countries we work with. Except for Egypt, these countries now have other urgent fires on their heads and inevitably their agendas change. On the Palestine issue, as we said before, we have the will to support all kinds of platforms. Humanitarian aid has been continuing from the beginning, I guess they are giving more than us.” “Therefore, we do not need to make a separate cash declaration, in-kind aid is provided constantly. Apart from that, there has not been a request from us in the current composition regarding the International Peace Force, and we are doing this as well.”
Doesn’t Israel want CAATSA sanctions to be lifted?
“Israel does not want neighboring countries to acquire certain talents. It is currently going in that mode. Let’s see if these struggles will continue. Everyone will play their own cards in one way or another.
Efforts are being made to obtain a result from CAATSA before the by-election. We took political steps. We’ll see.”
European security architecture
“As you know, the Europeans have taken this further among themselves, in the field of advanced defense industry, such as SAFE. Let’s become a little more independent from American defense systems, but there is currently no comprehensive study or plan to do something with Europe’s own troops outside of NATO, where there are no NATO troops. There are searches, there are discussions. We follow and follow the discussions closely. Both we and our diplomats intervene where necessary. This is our stance, the stance of our President: If there is a formation in our own neighborhood, we will always be involved in it. We are ready to be together.”

Minister Göktaş: The number of women working in technoparks is increasing
A panel titled “Business World and Entrepreneurship: Driving Forces of Women’s Empowerment” was held in Istanbul within the scope of the Belgian Economic Mission. Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş and Queen Mathilde of Belgium also attended the program. The program held in Istanbul started with the opening speech of Erdal Bahçıvan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Istanbul Chamber of Industry. Then, Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş and Queen Mathilde of Belgium made speeches. At the event, issues related to women’s full participation in economic life, equal opportunities in the business world, entrepreneurship and supporting women’s rights in the economic field were discussed. The panel was moderated by William Massolin, Head of the Council of Europe Türkiye Office.
The panel included LEAD Network Turkey President Neslihan Nigiz Ulak, UNFPA Turkey Representative and Azerbaijan and Georgia Country Director Mariam A. Khan, Sioen Industries CEO Michèle Sioen, Anatolian Technology Research Park General Manager Duygu Yalnızoğlu and B-Fit founder Dr. Bedriye Hülya attended as a speaker.
‘THE POWER OF COUNTRIES WILL NOT BE LIMITED TO NATURAL RESOURCES’
Speaking at the panel, Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş said, “The issue we are discussing today is not limited to the representation of women in business life. This issue is directly related to the direction of development, the quality of production, the depth of social welfare, and the economic order we will leave to future generations. The world economy is being reshaped by digitalization, green transformation, artificial intelligence, new production technologies and changes in global supply chains. The ‘Role of Business World and Entrepreneurship Panel’ in Women’s Empowerment will focus on the power of countries, capital accumulation, market size or “It will not be limited to natural resources; the real determinant will be the ability to mobilize human resources, transform knowledge into value and open opportunities to all segments of society.”
‘WE IMPLEMENTED POLICIES THAT EMPOWER WOMEN IN EVERY FIELD’
Minister Göktaş said, “As Turkey, we have taken important steps in the last 24 years to strengthen the position of women in social and economic life. Under the leadership of our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, we have implemented policies that empower women in all areas. With the ‘Women’s Empowerment Strategy Document and Action Plan’, we have created a strong policy framework that will reflect the potential of women in all areas of life. With our Action Plan, we have implemented projects that support women’s greater involvement in employment, entrepreneurship, STEM fields, digital economy and innovative sectors. Women’s cooperatives; “We support women as strong structures that transform them into production, local development and sustainable income. In this context, we offer women education, digital skills, access to technology, mentoring, opening up to the market and access to finance. We strengthen safe working conditions and support their greater representation in decision-making processes.”
‘WOMEN ARE WRITTEN SUCCESS STORIES IN Türkiye’
Minister Göktaş said, “With the ‘Rising Women: My Own Business, My Trace’ program that we launched last year, we are transforming entrepreneurship supports into a strong ecosystem extending from local to national. Today, our country offers strong production and innovation opportunities to women entrepreneurs with its dynamic entrepreneurship ecosystem that competes on a global scale. The presence of women in this ecosystem is increasing every year. The number of female R&D personnel working in R&D and design centers and technoparks has increased approximately eight times in the last 10 years, reaching over 61 thousand. In addition, Türkiye, It ranks first in the world with the rate of female inventors exceeding 26 percent in international patent applications. This success reveals the strong potential of women in the fields of science, technology and innovation. On the other hand, women in Türkiye are writing success stories in many strategic fields, from software to artificial intelligence, from defense industry to clean technologies, from advanced production to digital. I believe that today’s panel will add a strategic dimension to these contacts. “I would like to emphasize that the empowerment of women in the business world is too big an issue to be limited only to national policies. As Turkey, we are ready to contribute to every joint effort that will enable women to take a more active role in production, entrepreneurship, technology and leadership.”
‘IF WE WANT TO SHAPE THE FUTURE, WE MUST TAKE ACTION NOW’
Speaking at the panel, Queen Mathilde of Belgium said: “Let me share with you three thoughts based on the Belgian experience: First, women’s equal and meaningful participation in economic and political decision-making is a prerequisite for inclusive economic growth, innovation and social resilience. Belgium’s experience shows that equality is achieved not by chance, but through conscious and structural choices. If we want to shape the future, we must act now. Progress will include concrete measures, including legislation to promote gender balance, wage transparency and social dialogue initiatives, as well as sustainable developments towards accessible, high-quality child care.” “At the same time, real equality in education, mentoring and professional networks is necessary but not sufficient to empower women and girls; it must be accompanied by efforts to eliminate persistent barriers such as discrimination and stereotyping. Secondly, women’s empowerment in the workplace cannot be separated from safe, respectful and dignified working environments.”
‘WE ARE BUILDING A BETTER EQUIPPED LABOR MARKET FOR THE FUTURE’
Queen Mathilde said: “Belgium takes an integrated approach combining prevention, protection and accountability through a comprehensive legal and policy framework. Its legislation provides strategies such as preventive obligations for employers, confidential counseling mechanisms, formal complaints procedures with protection against reprisals, informal dispute resolution procedures and, finally, access to labor inspectors and courts when necessary. In practice, confidential and informal mechanisms play a vital role: more than 70 percent of workplace incidents in Belgium are safe for victims who may hesitate to speak out.” “At the international level, Belgium strongly supports mechanisms that strengthen the prevention of violence or harassment in the workplace and protect victims. By promoting these goals and sharing best practices, we will make progress towards safer and more inclusive workplaces around the world. This will benefit not only women but society as a whole. By consciously investing in women and girls today, we are building a labor market that is not only fairer, but better equipped for the future.”

Science Dissemination Foundation opened libraries in 15 schools in Istanbul
Within the scope of the “50 Libraries in the 50th Year” project, which was initiated by the Science Dissemination Foundation with 36 libraries in the earthquake regions after the February 6 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes, the mass opening ceremony of 15 libraries in Istanbul was held at Beşiktaş Anatolian High School with the participation of the Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Science Dissemination Foundation Necmeddin Bilal Erdoğan. Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, Istanbul Provincial Director of National Education Murat Mücahit Yentür and students also attended the program.

420 SQUARE METERS LIBRARY
Speaking about the libraries they opened, Necmeddin Bilal Erdoğan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Science Dissemination Foundation, said, “Of course, our philanthropists supported us when we decided to carry out this service. We keep their names alive on the doors of our libraries. When we said we should build libraries in 50 schools, we asked our Ministry of National Education. Beşiktaş Atatürk Anatolian High School, where we are here today, was our school that needed a touch, even though it had a really big library area. It is one of the distinguished schools of our country. “We have built a 420 square meter library in one of the schools. This is the largest library,” he said.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY IN EDUCATION
Explaining their work in education, Erdoğan said, “This is very important for Türkiye’s equality of opportunity in education. It is very important for eliminating the imbalances between regions. The Science Dissemination Society Science Dissemination Foundation, which has provided scholarships and accommodation opportunities to more than a million students at the university high school level and provided project supports and overseas education supports to tens of thousands of academics to date, will touch the lives of all students who will pass through here with this library. The science dissemination foundation, which we have built in our Science Dissemination Society, will touch the lives of all students at the secondary and high school levels.” “We provide scholarships to 3 thousand of our student friends in Istanbul. As the Knowledge Dissemination Foundation, we provide scholarships to approximately 4 thousand high school, university and graduate doctor students every year,” he said.

HE EXPLAINED THE SITUATION OF EDUCATION BEFORE 2002
Speaking at the opening, Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin said, “Turkey has truly done revolutionary work in the education and training processes in the last twenty years. We are not aware of many things because we live in it. We do not see many things. We, as much as possible, tell some anecdotes about Turkey before 2002 in the environments we attend in our conversations, and at the point we have reached, we see it as a human and Islamic duty to express our gratitude and thank those who have brought us this success or this point. “Unfortunately, we were living in a situation where Turkey ranked second and third from last among OECD member countries in the world rankings in terms of the number of students per teacher, physical capacity and quality of education. In this table, environments such as libraries, workshops and laboratories in our schools were not very noticeable to us because we needed classrooms much more seriously,” he said.

750 THOUSAND CLASSROOMS
Stating that Türkiye currently has 750 thousand classrooms, Minister Tekin said, “Currently, we have approximately 750 thousand classrooms. 750 thousand classrooms throughout Turkey. We had approximately 350 classrooms in 2002. When we look at this number, it seems to have doubled. But if we look at it this way, if we consider that approximately half of those 350 thousand classrooms were demolished and rebuilt for reasons such as earthquakes or ending their economic life, we have approximately 150 thousand classrooms before 2002. “Now, when I say this, some people get upset. Today, we have 750 thousand classrooms. Wouldn’t it be unfair not to thank the people who did this and the politicians who allocated resources for this? According to the TIMS scores announced in December last year, this is a very important indicator for us. PISA scores, which we applied last year, will be announced on September 8, and we are saying that we expect a very good grade there.”

Breaking news… President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended the “158th Establishment Anniversary of the Council of State and the Council of State and Administrative Jurisdiction Day Ceremony” in Ankara and gave important messages.
Highlights from President Erdoğan’s statements:
In its modern sense, the state of law is a source of equal light for everyone, like the sun at the top of the day in the middle of the day. Public administration cannot look down on citizens. The administrator is not the master of the citizen, but his servant.
“WE REMEMBERED THE BARBED WIRE MESH”
We put an end to all kinds of privileges and discrimination, and tore down the barbed wire fences that stood between the people and the republic. There is no fear for anyone in the rule of law.

No unlawful interference in the exercise of judicial power can be tolerated or excused. However, the judiciary does not have the right or authority to act or make decisions under the tutelage of the legislature or the executive.
We will continue to increase our efforts for a more fair judicial system. There is a lynching culture on social media.
NEW CONSTITUTION MESSAGE
A new, encompassing, libertarian and civil constitution stands before us with the possibility of building our democracy from the bottom up. We have to transform the Constitution from a framework determined by the coup plotters or elites and imposed on the society into a text determined by the society itself and declared to the state.
Despite the 4 constitutions that followed the Constitution, the Turkish nation’s longing for a good constitution has still not subsided. I believe that with such a constitution, it will be possible for us to achieve a superior legal logic that will protect both law, democracy, state and nation at the same time.
