Statement from Minister Yusuf Tekin on ‘vocational and technical education’: It is very important for us
Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin said that one of the most sensitive issues that the Ministry focuses on is the development of vocational and technical education in Türkiye, in the “18th International MEB Robot Competition” program held at Antalya Sports Hall with the theme of “Green Homeland, Blue Future” under the coordination of the General Directorate of Vocational and Technical Education, in cooperation with TÜBİTAK and TIKA, and under the theme of “Green Homeland, Blue Future”.
Stating that vocational and technical education is very important from two perspectives, Tekin stated that this education is very important in eliminating the damage caused by February 28, one of the important breaking moments in Türkiye’s democratization process, on Türkiye’s democracy, rule of law and human rights perspective. For this reason, Tekin emphasized that every step that will develop and strengthen vocational and technical education is a step that will repair these wounds opened in democracy in Türkiye.
Secondly, Tekin explained that the development of the talents of young people shows that the country is developing economically, and noted that they are making intense efforts to develop the talents of the students in this respect.
Tekin stated that very important steps have been taken with these two perspectives in Türkiye since 2010, and that the coefficient obstacle in front of vocational high schools and the anti-democratic steps that caused vocational high school students to worry about the future have been eliminated.
Explaining that they discussed this issue in order to redesign vocational and technical education according to the skills required by the age, Tekin stated that in many schools and many provinces, areas that have become dysfunctional are closed and replaced with new areas according to the needs of the age.
Tekin stated that they opened vocational and technical education to sector representatives with the project school format in 2014 and said, “We started to determine the curriculum in our schools providing vocational and technical education with the representatives of professional organizations representing the business world that we chose as stakeholders.” he said.
“WE TAKEN VERY SERIOUS STEPS REGARDING INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS”
Minister Tekin underlined that they have taken very serious steps regarding internship programs in which children will receive practical training while receiving theoretical education.
Stating that they first organized workshop laboratories, so that children could carry out workshops and laboratory studies in a sterile environment, Tekin stated that within the framework of the protocols made with workplaces, they started to provide pocket money to children at the rate of 30 percent and 50 percent of the minimum wage.
Emphasizing that the main criterion sought in the enterprises with which the protocol is signed is to take all measures regarding occupational health and safety, Tekin said, “We have started to return to the situation before February 28 regarding vocational and technical education. As of now, 41 out of 100 secondary school students in Türkiye are receiving vocational and technical education. This year, 43 out of 100 secondary school students have registered for vocational and technical education. This is very important for us.” he said.
Minister Tekin reminded that the Vocational and Technical Education Policy Document was published in 2024 with the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and said that they added the solutions to the new problems encountered in the field to the policy document.
Stating that one of the main problems in the world right now is the lack of emphasis on the human characteristics of children, Tekin said that they have included this issue in the 2024 policy document in order to raise children who prioritize being good people, peace, human rights, justice and compassion.
Stating that this robot competition is one of the events organized by the Ministry with the highest participation, Tekin said, “We are organizing the 18th and this year we have contestant friends and young people from 23 countries. Tens of thousands of our friends from 81 provinces are here to participate in this competition. I thank them all.” he said.
“THE ‘GREEN HOMELAND, BLUE FUTURE’ THEME IS VERY IMPORTANT”
MEB Vocational and Technical Education General Director Salih Kaygusuz said that every work put forward by young people in line with the National Technology Move targets reflects Türkiye’s production capacity and excitement.
Antalya Governor Hulusi Şahin emphasized that the theme of “Green Homeland, Blue Future” is very important for the future of Türkiye and said, “We are in the digital and information age, the cards are being distributed again and we have very good trump cards in the newly distributed cards. The most important of those trump cards is our young, hard-working, special population that fills this hall.” he said.
Later, Minister Tekin and the protocol members visited the in-field competition tracks and the stands established in the field. During the program, students chatted with Minister Tekin and took a souvenir photo.
Representatives of TÜBİTAK, TIKA and Turkish Maarif Foundation, students and educators from home and abroad attended the program.

Great interest in the DOA application, which started in 81 provinces! First Lady Erdoğan: It will add value to our country’s economy
1 TL INCENTIVE FEE CAN BE EARNED FOR EACH PACKAGING
Öztürk stated that the DOA system is a holistic system that enables the separate collection of plastic, glass and aluminum beverage packaging at the source, their digital monitoring and their re-introduction to the economy.
“Our citizens will be able to earn an incentive fee of 1 lira for each suitable packaging by delivering plastic, glass and aluminum beverage packaging with the DOA logo to deposit return machines or manual return points.” Öztürk said, “In order to support the fair and sustainable functioning of the system for individual returns, we have determined 200 packages as a daily upper limit. The incentive fee will be transferred to the DOA wallet. Our citizens will be able to transfer their accumulated balances to their bank accounts, withdraw them from ATMs or use them for shopping.” he said.
Öztürk stated that the system consists of 3 phases and that they tested the 1st phase with a pilot application in Sakarya last year and said, “We are moving to the 2nd phase, that is, the national integration process. The DOA system has now reached the level to be implemented in 81 provinces and 973 districts. The 3rd and last phase will be the full dissemination period.” he said.
Pointing out that their goal is to transform the system into a permanent structure that can be easily accessed by citizens working at the same standards in every corner of Türkiye, Öztürk said:
“Every year, approximately 25 billion beverage packages become waste. When these packages are brought together, they create a volume that would cover approximately 100 thousand football fields. In other words, enough plastic, glass and aluminum packaging to fill approximately 100 thousand football fields are released into nature every year. We are implementing one of the world’s largest warehouse management systems to change this situation.”
Öztürk stated that within a year, they will put into service at least one deposit return point that citizens can easily reach in every neighborhood of Türkiye and said, “We will also continue to support our businesses in this process. While the number of deposit return machines increases, we will also provide the necessary field equipment to manual return points and ensure their strong participation in the system.” He made a statement.
“APPROXIMATELY 65 PERCENT OF 25 BILLION PACKAGING IS IN OUR HOTELS, RESTAURANTS AND CAFES”
Öztürk stated that they carry out the DOA system with a comprehensive infrastructure in which the entire process from producer to consumer, from return points to recycling facilities is managed digitally.
Stating that while markets, supermarkets, grocery stores and kiosks serve as return points for citizens, hotels, restaurants and cafes make a significant contribution to the recycling chain by bringing their own packaging into the system, Öztürk said, “I would like to underline the role of our hotel, restaurant and cafe businesses. Approximately 65 percent of the 25 billion packages we mentioned are in our hotels, restaurants and cafes. Therefore, every packaging collected in these businesses will directly contribute to our recycling and recovery targets. Moreover, our businesses deliver them in bulk.” “They will also receive an incentive fee of 20 kuruş for each package with the DOA logo.” he said.
Öztürk explained that businesses will complete their registration through the warehouse information management system and work with authorized operators, adding, “Collection, transportation and verification processes will be carried out in a safe, orderly and traceable manner thanks to this structure.” he said.
Pointing out that natural resources will be used more efficiently with the DOA system, Öztürk continued his words as follows:
“We will ensure that the quality recycled raw materials needed by our industry are met at a higher rate domestically and accelerate and strengthen the circular economy. The economic impact of this transformation is also extremely important. We foresee an annual decrease of 35 to 40 percent in beverage packaging raw material imports. This development will positively affect production costs and make a significant contribution to reducing the trade deficit, which will reduce foreign dependency. We foresee that the DOA system will bring an annual economic value of approximately 30 billion lira to the Turkish economy. In the next 20-30 years.” “We expect the system to create employment for 20 thousand people.”
MACHINES WERE DEVELOPED BY LOCAL INDUSTRIALISTS
Öztürk stated that they ensure that strategic raw materials are brought back into the economy within Türkiye and that DOA is not only an environmental practice but also resource security.
Pointing out that the machines used in the field were developed by domestic industrialists, Öztürk said that the technology developed by Türkiye in this field and the operation model it established will constitute an important reference for many countries that will establish a deposit system in the future.
After his speech, Öztürk sat in front of the DOA machine and demonstrated in practice how the device works.

Father of July 15 martyr police officer Fırat Bulut: “I lost my son, but I gained my homeland”
Police officer Fırat Bulut was one of those who defended their homeland at the expense of their lives during the July 15 coup attempt and were martyred in the conflict. Bulut, who fought against the coup plotter traitors in front of the General Staff for 2.5 hours and fired 281 bullets, responded to his friends’ words ‘Get back, take cover’ and said, ‘I will not step out of the way of these traitors.
He replied by saying, “There is a homeland without the Euphrates, but there is no Euphrates without a homeland.” The family of Fırat Bulut, who was martyred by traitors right after these words, still feels the pain like the first day, even though 10 years have passed.
‘WE DIE ONE AND RIVE A THOUSAND’
Father Şinasi Bulut, who lives in Konya Ereğli, explained his feelings to SABAH, days before the anniversary of July 15. Stating that he has been living without Fırat for 10 years but is proud of his son, father Şinasi Bulut said, “My martyr shielded those FETO scoundrels for this nation, for the flag, for the call to prayer.
These scoundrels should not forget that; ‘Let not one but a thousand Euphrates be sacrificed for this country.’ I lost my son, but I gained my homeland. If I didn’t have a homeland, what would be the use of us? My son and other heroes did not surrender our homeland to traitors for the sake of their lives.
We cut out the tongue of anyone who reaches out to our flag. My other children and I are ready to sacrifice our lives for this country. We die once and are resurrected a thousand times. “As long as the country is alive,” he said.
‘THIS BETRAYAL WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN EVEN IN A THOUSAND YEARS’
Stating that this betrayal will not be forgotten even if a thousand years pass, Şinasi Bulut said, “Every year it comes, my heart aches. But I also feel happy when I think that we did not give this country to those scoundrels. My Fırat said to me, ‘Dad, the homeland is being lost, how many Fırats are gone?’ he said.
What can be said about this statement? If the subject is homeland, the rest is just details. “Let’s not forget the betrayal, let’s not let it be forgotten,” he said. The name of July 15 martyr police Fırat Bulut was given to a street in Erzurum and a school in Ankara Keçiören.

Türkiye is the political and military leader in NATO
Just a few days before the Ankara Summit, which will be held by NATO on July 7-8, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte gave important messages about Türkiye. Here are the highlights from Rutte’s answers to Anadolu Agency’s questions:
Türkiye is an extremely important country for NATO. Although it was not among the founding members, it joined NATO in 1952, only 3 years after the alliance’s founding. So he’s been part of the alliance almost from the very beginning. Today, it has one of the strongest armies in NATO. Turkish Armed Forces are extremely well equipped and well trained. In addition, having a huge defense industry infrastructure consisting of approximately 3 thousand companies is also an important advantage.
These large, medium and small-sized companies attach great importance to innovation; It develops the latest technologies and reflects the lessons learned from the field, for example in the Ukrainian war, to defense industry production. This makes Türkiye’s defense industry extremely strong. That’s why we were extremely determined to organize the NATO Summit Defense Industry Forum in Ankara on July 7. Our aim, of course, is to demonstrate not only Türkiye’s but also NATO’s general defense industry capacity.
However, it is an extremely appropriate choice for Türkiye to host such a forum. NATO operates with a 360-degree security perspective, meaning we look at threats from all sides. Terrorism is also an important part of this 360-degree approach. The assessments and information provided to us by Türkiye’s political and military leadership on this issue are of critical importance for maintaining the security of the entire alliance. AA
WE GOT STRONGER BY TRANSFORMING
Founded in 1949 with 12 countries against the threat of the Soviet Union, NATO continues its path as the world’s longest-lasting military alliance, having transformed with 32 members 77 years later and adapted to current challenges. Türkiye joined NATO in 1952. Turkey, which has the second largest army in the alliance, draws attention within NATO with its geostrategic position, military capacity, regional influence, capabilities in the defense industry, effective diplomacy, leadership capacity and contributions to operations and missions. Turkey, which continues to share the burden with the principle of regional ownership not only in talent development and defense expenditures, but also by making concrete contributions to peace and stability, stands out as one of the countries that contributes the most to NATO’s operations and missions.
IT WAS VERY IMPRESSIVE TO SEE ASELSAN
I visited ASELSAN in April. It was really impressive to see this company up close. It was also extremely impressive to see how ASELSAN works in cooperation with many companies in Türkiye and how the Turkish defense industry develops partnerships with companies all over Europe and the USA. Türkiye’s investment in the USA and the fact that companies from the USA and other European countries also invest in Türkiye reveal a strong cooperation. We need this because it forms the basis of our deterrence.
President Erdoğan received the delegation of Turkish Catholic Bishops.
