US political scientist Norton: Land grabbing and exploitation of resources became visible with the Palestinian struggle!
THE POWER OF THE UNIVERSITY AND ACADEMY IS STILL LIMITED
Evaluating the approach of universities and media organizations in the West to the Palestine issue, Norton said that students and academics have a more open attitude in academic circles, but they do not have enough power over decision-making structures.
Norton, however, pointed out that the recent increase in unionization movements, especially among graduate students, could change the balance of power in the academy, and emphasized that this process could “significantly transform the academic ecosystem.”

“DECOLONIZED THOUGHT IS NOT NOURISHED FROM A SINGLE CULTURAL SOURCE”
When asked what the decolonized idea would be like in practice, Norton replied that “it has not yet fully emerged, but some of its features can already be seen.”
Emphasizing that the decolonization of thought should not be stuck on a single cultural basis, on the contrary, it should have a pluralistic structure, Norton said, “We can also see the features that this structure may have. It will not only be fed by a single cultural source, but will be fed by more than one cultural source. People who talk about politics will benefit from these different sources when expressing their views and ideas in public.” he said. Emphasizing that social media accelerates the circulation of information, but that this area is under the control of large companies and oligarchs in the West, Norton said, “One of the problems in the West is that social media is very strongly controlled by companies and oligarchs. This needs to be broken.” he said. Pointing out that Istanbul can become one of the global information production centers, Norton stated that the Palestinian press provides a remarkable example in this regard. “The Palestinian press stands out for two things: one is their extraordinary courage, and the other is that they actually produce the news,” Norton said. made his assessment.
Stating that centers such as Brazil and Argentina, as well as Istanbul, can be effective in the production of news and ideas on a global scale, Norton said that Türkiye’s historical and cultural heritage provides a significant advantage in this respect.

The president of the court kicked İmamoğlu and CHP members out of the courtroom: ‘You cannot act as a clown here’
Tension arose at the 61st hearing of the corruption and bribery case at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, where former Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality President Ekrem İmamoğlu from CHP was tried as the “leader of the İmamoğlu Self-motivated Criminal Organization”. After the Istanbul 40th High Criminal Court panel announced that they would finish the defenses on July 9, İmamoğlu tried to negotiate with the president of the court, but could not find what he expected. Speaking at the hearing, İmamoğlu stated to the court president that it seemed impossible for the hearing to end on July 9. The president of the court said that they made an evaluation on this issue with the delegation and said, “We have determined a calendar and we are implementing it. After the defense of İmamoğlu İnşaat General Manager Tuncay Yılmaz, we will continue with Mr. Ekrem and complete it on the 9th. There is no rule that the detained defendants will end in the first hearing. If necessary, we will hold a hearing, but we will close it on the 9th.”

‘YOU ARE INTERVENING FROM YOUR PLACE’
When the defendant İmamoğlu reacted by asking the reason for the date of July 9, the president of the court said, “Mr. Ekrem, do not drag the matter to other places. We have set a calendar and we are implementing it.” The court president said to İmamoğlu, who continued his reaction, “You are constantly intervening by sitting in your seat. I will have to take you out of the courtroom.” As İmamoğlu and the lawyers continued their reactions, the court president decided to remove İmamoğlu from the courtroom on the grounds that he disrupted the order of the hearing. This situation was objected to for a while, and then İmamoğlu and some of the defendants were taken out of the hall accompanied by the gendarmerie.

‘YOU CANNOT BE A CLONGER HERE’
Thereupon, CHP Diyarbakır Deputy Sezgin Tanrıkulu, who was in the audience, called out to the court president, “Review your decision,” while CHP Deputy Suat Özçağdaş, wagging his finger at the court president, said, “I’m asking you! Did you or the bailiff decide to take him out of the courtroom?” he shouted. The presiding judge said, “No one can shout here, you have no right to ask me questions. You cannot engage in any kind of clowning here just because you are a member of parliament. The person who claims to be a member of parliament should also be removed from the courtroom.”
